Gioachino Rossini's The Barber of Seville, or The Futile Precaution has been called the most successful comic opera of all time. Performed in opera houses all over the world and alluded to in movies, comic books and even animated series, the performance remains one of today's most popular operas, nearly 200 years after its debut. Telling the story of the Count of Almaviva, who is madly in love with Rosina, a young noblewoman betrothed to the grump Dr. Bartolo, The Barber of Seville opens with the Count, disguised as the poor musician Lindoro, singing to Rosina's window.  Figaro, a man who used to be the Count's servant, approaches him. The Count asks him for help with Rosina. Figaro suggests that the Count disguise himself as a drunken soldier who needs lodging at Dr. Bartolo's. The Count pays Figaro handsomely and carries out this plan. After learning that Rosina is in love with who she thinks is Lindoro, the Count and Figaro use a series of disguises to show Rosina the Count's true identity, rescue her from Dr. Bartolo and have the Count and Rosina married
