Teacher evaluation : five keys to growth by Daniel Linden Duke( Book )

6 editions published in 1986 in English and held by 682 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This guide, written for teachers and administrators wishing to introduce evaluation systems that promote continued teacher growth and enhance school effectiveness, suggests that meaningful change requires a clear understanding of what is already in operation, substantial skill development, and adequate resources for the duration of the change cycle. Rather than prescribing a single route to success, the guide offers examples of different evaluation experiences, describes possible evaluation courses, and, in separate chapters, offers five keys to effective evaluation: teachers, evaluators, performance data, feedback, and context. A subsequent chapter examines the important attributes of these keys in more detail. The guide concludes by offering two scenarios for success and a discussion on evaluating existing evaluation procedures, improving the teacher evaluation environment, and upgrading evaluation skills. An appendix includes a teacher evaluation experience questionnaire and a questionnaire for evaluators' self-examination. (Iw)

Imperatives in education by American Association of School Administrators( Book )

4 editions published in 1966 in English and held by 394 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the spring of 1964, the american association of school administrators (aasa) appointed a special commission to investigate and identify major educational imperatives. After two years of study, the commission identified nine imperatives in education--(1) to make urban life rewarding and satisfying, (2) to prepare people for the world of work, (3) to discover and nurture creative talent, (4) to strengthen the moral fabric of society, (5) to deal constructively with psychological tensions, (6) to keep democracy working, (7) to make intelligent use of natural resources, (8) to make the best use of leisure time, and (9) to work with other peoples of the world for human betterment. These imperatives are areas in which the educational program must be revised to meet changing needs. This document is available for $6.00 from the american association of school administrators, 1201 sixteenth st., N.W., washington, D.C. 20036. (hm)

Restructuring America's schools by Anne Chambers Lewis( Book )

5 editions published between 1989 and 1990 in English and held by 386 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 11 chapters, this book objectively looks at school restructuring on the basis of prominent reports on education; materials submitted by local schools and school systems; results from the aasa (American Association of School Administrators) survey; and interviews with local school leaders, prominent reformers, as well as several state and national organization representatives. Chapter 1 defines "restructuring." Chapter 2 examines restructuring within the context of current educational reform literature. Chapter 3 furnishes the philosophical bases of restructuring. Chapter 4 articulates teachers' views toward restructuring. Chapter 5 discusses the role of the business community in the effort to restructure U.S. public education. Chapter 6 describes the role of university involvement in school restructuring. State policies regarding major educational reforms--the subject of Chapter 7--have experienced a restructuring of their own, as they have evolved from proscriptive measures to those that enable school-site change. A discussion of the complexities and impact of school restructuring on school districts is the focus of chapter 8. Chapter 9 centers on the decisionmaking process in the restructuring effort. Chapters 10 and 11 discuss coping with change once restructuring takes place; suggest that the changed work environment requires new ways and means for leaders, supervisors, teaching staff, and students to perform effectively in new surroundings; and offer change strategies to assist school personnel to adapt to restructuring efforts. Total leaders : applying the best future-focused change strategies to education by Charles J Schwahn( Book )

3 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 363 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book focuses on education management and the change strategies needed to guide education in the upcoming years. It is intended for those who are responsible for selecting, supervising, developing, or evaluating people in leadership positions or who want to analyze their leadership performance and plan for further professional growth. The text analyzes the purposes, patterns, performance roles, and change strategies that constitute total leadership, and it prompts leaders to work in a simple leadership model that will strengthen leadership insights, performance, and effectiveness. It examines future trends and the importance of adapting to these changes: the essence of "total" leaders, the authentic leadership domain where total leaders define purpose, the visionary leadership domain where total leaders frame vision, the cultural leadership domain where total leaders develop ownership, the quality leadership domain where total leaders build capacity, the service leadership domain where total leaders ensure support, and how to apply total leadership to the schools.
