Das Lied von der Erde by Gustav Mahler( )

1,184 editions published between 1936 and 2017 in 7 languages and held by 15,589 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Composed in 1902, this purely instrumental work followed upon three symphonies that had all included vocal parts. This and the opening trumpet motif, an allusion to the rhythm that begins Beethoven's Fifth have been interpreted as Mahler's return to a more conventional idea of the symphonic genre

Symphony no. 7 by Gustav Mahler( )

369 editions published between 1954 and 2018 in 7 languages and held by 6,041 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Mariss Jansons's international reputation as a Mahler conductor is indisputable. During his tenure as chief conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Jansons did not record a full cycle of Mahler symphonies. With this new 2016 recording that project is now nearing completion. Mahler himself led the Concertgebouw Orchestra in the Dutch premiere of the Seventh in October 1909. How must the audience in the Main Hall have reacted to this whimsical work with its night-time atmosphere and eerie sounds? Although this vast symphony, featuring a number of unconventional instruments like the mandolin and guitar, did not catch on right away, it would slowly but surely win the hearts of music lovers everywhere

For the latest highly anticipated release in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra's Mahler symphony cycle under the direction of its chief conductor Mariss Jansons, the orchestra now turns its attention to the Third Symphony. The second part retells the final episode of Goethe's Faust in which the title character finds salvation. This recording also includes the Adagio from Mahler's 10th symphony and is the final installment of the San Francisco Symphony's Mahler cycle

"Using the composer's own sketches, and a thorough knowledge of his orchestral style, Remo Mazetti [sic], Jr.'s reconstruction of Mahler's 10th Symphony, in its world premiere recording, gives us a vision of how this extraordinary work might sound if Mahler had lived to complete it."--Container insert
