Canadian reference sources; a selective guide by Dorothy E Ryder( Book )

12 editions published between 1973 and 1981 in English and held by 633 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of this work is to provide librarians and students with a guide to Canadian reference material divided into the following fields: general reference works, the humanities, science, and the social sciences. It is a selective guide only, and does not aim at completeness. The material covers Canada in general, the ten provinces, the territories, and three cities -- Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto. No geographical area smaller than a province, with the exception of the three cities named, is considered. However, the emphasis is on Canada in general, the provinces receiving coverage in certain selected subjects, and the three cities receiving merely a token coverage. Reference works such as those dealing with individuals or with particular laws have been excluded. New editions and new works up to December 1971, which have come to the attention of the editor, have been listed. A subject, author and title index is included. (Author/DH)

Nonbook materials; the organization of integrated collections by Jean Weihs( Book )

17 editions published between 1970 and 1989 in English and held by 203 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book has been written for all types of libraries and media centres which wish to have an omnimedia catalog, I.E., one in which the entries for all materials, both book and nonbook, are interfiled. In order to integrate all entries successfully the same cataloging principles should apply to all media. A practical solution is to enter and describe non-book materials according to the rules already prescribed for books. Therefore, this volume develops its rules according to the precepts of Parts I and ii of the "Anglo-American Cataloging Rules," varying these rules only when the nature of the material demands it. It is impossible to predict new media which may be developed in the future. These rules have been written to encompass the cataloging of new formats of existing media without the confusion and time lapse which attends the adoption of new rules. A knowledge of book cataloging and basic cataloging principles is presupposed. Throughout its text, references are made to the "Anglo-American Cataloging Rules," which is to be used for the detailed construction of main and added entries, dates, format of notes, etc. (Author/SJ)
