Currency collection by Guy Bryan Harrison( )

in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The Currency Collection contains numerous types of currency from both Mexico and the United States, especially Texas. The majority of these items date to the Civil War era and include representations from different states and groups that issued their own currency at that time, including private banks, the United States Postal Service, and the Ku Klux Klan. Except for the United States Postage currency, all those that are undated have illegible dates written on them but date to the 1800s. This collection is contained in one series, Currency. Some pieces are ripped, torn, and cut, while others are in pristine condition. It is probable that this currency began accumulating while Guy Bryan Harrison Jr. was director of The Texas Collection. This currency could have been gathered from existing collections, or as many individual donations through the years. For many years, this currency was kept in a secure location apart from other historical materials at The Texas Collection. It was never accessioned; this is the first description of these materials
