The Alaska State employee child care survey by Richard H Smiley( Book )

1 edition published in 1985 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A survey of Alaska State employees was conducted in Juneu and Anchorage to assess the child care needs of State employees who used child care services for children through 12 years of age or for handicapped children of any age. State employees who did not use child care services were also surveyed. A total of 2200 questionnaires assessing demographic, child, and attitudinal information were distributed to employees. Response rates were 42% in Juneau and 46% in Anchorage. Approximately 60 percent of the respondents were married females having two or fewer children, most frequently 26 to 35 years old, who frequently had annual family incomes over $40,000, infrequently received public day care assistance, and paid $200 to $400 per month per child for child care. Family day care was most frequently used. Center care was used more frequently in Anchorage. Day care was licensed approximately half of the time. Approximately one-third of all respondents felt that their child care needs were not being met. Over half missed 4 hours of work or less due to child care concerns. Three reasons for choosing particular child care services and the three most frequent criticisms of services were identified, along with preferences for employer-sponsored services. Responses of single parents were different from those of married respondents, as were those of employees not using child care services. (Rh)
