Hokusai by Edmond de Goncourt ( )
35 editions published between 1896 and 2014 in 5 languages and held by 2,204 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Katsushika Hokusai is without a doubt the most famous Japanese artist known in the Western world since the middle of the nineteenth century. Reflecting the artistic expression of an isolated civilisation, the works of Hokusai, one of the first Japanese artists to emerge in Europe, greatly influenced Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters, such as Vincent van Gogh. Considered a Ukiyo-e master even during his lifetime, Hokusai fascinates us with the variety and the significance of his work which spanned almost ninety years and is presented here in all its breadth and diversity

Roku 1864 poprvé vyšlý román bratří Goncourtů. Víc než dějem chtěl upoutat postižením psychologie soudobé mládeže. Ztělesňuje ji tu dvojice sourozenců: ušlechtilá, jakékoli obchodování citem nesnášející Renáta a její bratrJindřich, který, aby získal dceru a její obrovské věno, se neváhá stát milencem její matky. Oba sourozenci hynou tragicky; Jindřich v souboji a Renáta, která k němu dala podnět, hořem nad svým činem

Utamaro by Edmond de Goncourt ( )
10 editions published between 2008 and 2012 in 3 languages and held by 797 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
If sensuality had a name, it would be without a doubt Utamaro. Delicately underlining the Garden of Pleasures that once constituted Edo, Utamaro, by the richness of his fabrics, the long necks of swans, the mysterious looks, evoke in a few lines the sensual pleasure of the Orient. If some scenes betray discreetly lovers' games, a great number of his shungas recall that love in Japan is first and foremost erotic
130 editions published between 1817 and 2006 in French and Italian and held by 771 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Manette Salomon : roman by Edmond de Goncourt ( Book )
133 editions published between 1822 and 2014 in 5 languages and held by 570 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The woman of the eighteenth century, her life, from birth to death, her love and her philosophy in the worlds of salon, shop, and street by Edmond de Goncourt ( Book )
26 editions published between 1927 and 2013 in English and Undetermined and held by 464 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This translation of the French Femme au dix-huitiéme siécle from 1862, first published in English in 1928, traces the life of the Eighteenth Century woman in an historical account. Through discussion of evidence from paintings and memoirs, the book draws an intimate lifelike account of what lay behind these images for women in France of this time. The Goncourt brothers wrote several social histories but were also art critics and novelists. Here they offer portraits of upper, middle and working class women in France. This is one of the earliest accounts of life for women in this per
