"In this inspiring book, US Olympian and hockey star Kendall Coyne shares the grit and determination it took to break down barriers and achieve her dreams against tremendous odds, encouraging young people to follow their passions and never give up. The world told Kendall Coyne to slow down. They said "not so fast" when she picked up hockey skates instead of figure skates. They said "just a minute" when she tried out for the boy's team. They told her "you're not enough" so often that she started to believe it. But Kendall had a passion and a dream, so instead of slowing down, she sped up, going on to win Olympic gold and a spot in the Fastest Skater Competition at the 2019 NHL All-Star Weekend. As Fast as Her explores how Kendall held on to her dream, overcame her insecurities and naysayers, and pushed herself past barriers to achieve her goals-and how you can too! Inside, Kendall shares: stories that illustrate the lessons she's learned and how to apply them for success encouragement to help young people know they are good enough-to fit in, to find their "why," and to create lasting change for others her personal trials and triumphs, inspiring readers to discover what excites and exhausts them-and help them to be as relentless in achieving their own goals behind-the-scenes and personal photos in a full-color 8-page insert"--

American masters(
Visual
)
1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 92 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Billie Jean King is the single most important female athlete of the 20th century, winner of 39 Grand Slam titles and a major force in changing and democratizing the cultural landscape. AMERICAN MASTERS looks back to the 12-year-old girl who played tennis on public courts, observed disparity and, as she soared athletically, never stopped trying to remedy inequality. Perhaps best remembered from "The Battle of the Sexes" match vs. Bobby Riggs on Sept. 20, 1973, her competitiveness on the court was matched by her efforts on behalf of women and the LGBT community, and her commitment to prove there is strength in diversity. King presents her own story, with perspective from Serena and Venus Williams, Hillary Clinton, Maria Sharapova, members of the Virginia Slims Circuit "Original 9" including Rosie Casals, Gloria Steinem, Chris Evert, Bobby Riggs' son Larry, family, friends, and many others. Through these interviews and archival footage, the film illustrates the life of a woman whose journey became not just a battle for personal glory but a sociopolitical battle for equality for all

All in : an autobiography by
Billie Jean King(
Book
)
10 editions published between 2021 and 2022 in English and held by 89 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
-- "A story about the personal strength, immense growth, and undeniable greatness of one woman who fearlessly stood up to a culture trying to break her down."?Serena Williams In this spirited account, Billie Jean King details her life's journey to find her true self. She recounts her groundbreaking tennis career?six years as the top-ranked woman in the world, twenty Wimbledon championships, thirty-nine grand-slam titles, and her watershed defeat of Bobby Riggs in the famous "Battle of the Sexes." She poignantly recalls the cultural backdrop of those years and the profound impact on her worldview from the women's movement, the assassinations and anti-war protests of the 1960s, the civil rights movement, and, eventually, the LGBTQ+ rights movement. She describes the myriad challenges she's hurdled?entrenched sexism, an eating disorder, near financial peril after being outed?on her path to publicly and unequivocally acknowledging her sexual identity at the age of fifty-one. She talks about how her life today remains one of indefatigable service. She offers insights and advice on leadership, business, activism, sports, politics, marriage equality, parenting, sexuality, and love. And she shows how living honestly and openly has had a transformative effect on her relationships and happiness. Hers is the story of a pathbreaking feminist, a world-class athlete, and an indomitable spirit whose impact has transcended even her spectacular achievements in sports

The complete Peanuts 1973-1974 by
Charles M Schulz(
Book
)
2 editions published in 2019 in English and held by 17 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The 12th volume of Peanuts features a number of tennis strips and several extended sequences involving Peppermint Patty's friend Marcie (including a riotous, rarely seen sequence in which Marcie's costume-making and hairstyling skills utterly spoil a skating competition for PP), so it seems only right that this volume's introduction should be served up by Schulz's longtime friend, tennis champion (and 2009 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient) Billie Jean King. This volume also picks up on a few loose threads from the previous year, as the mysterious Poochie shows up in the flesh; Linus and Lucy's new kid brother Rerun makes his first appearance and embarks on his first terrifying journey on the back of his mom's bike; and, in one of Peanuts oddest recurring storylines, the schoolhouse Sally used to talk to starts talking, or at least thinking, back at her! The Complete Peanuts 1973-1974 also includes one of the all-time classic Peanuts sequences, in which Charlie Brown's baseball-oriented hallucinations finally manifest themselves in a baseball-shaped rash on his head. Forced to conceal the embarrassing discoloration with a bag worn over his head, Charlie Brown goes to camp as Mister Sack and discovers that, shorn of his identity, he's suddenly well liked and successful."--
