Follow-up of 1965 graduates of Wisconsin schools of vocational, technical, and adult education by James Kenneth Little( Book )

2 editions published in 1970 in English and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In order to evaluate the employment success of Wisconsin vocational graduates and to measure the extent to which this success is attributable to the vocational program, the Center for Studies in Vocational and Technical Education conducted a followup study of 1,855 graduates. When only 55 percent of the graduates responded, a short form of the questionnaire was distributed to nonrespondents raising the total response rate to 82 percent. Although significant differences between the two groups of respondents prevented generalization of many of the findings, employment and income of graduates were generally good, and for the most part, graduates found that training and work were related and their educational experience was useful in getting, holding, or changing jobs. Training, transfer and the influence of job search procedures, psychological attributes and personal characteristics on earnings of workers affected by a plant closure by James L Stern( Book )

2 editions published in 1974 in English and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This followup study on plant closures was designed to replicate an earlier study in order to ascertain whether training would again show no payoff relative to direct labor market participation. The major variables used were: Influence of personal characteristics, psychological attributes and job search patterns, in addition to the variables of age, skill, race, education, and previous earnings. The implications of the findings, which in general matched those of the earlier study, are discussed in detail, and it is suggested that the fact that the laid-off men are already proven workers outweighs their disadvantagement in other areas is of significance. The tabulated data from the study and an explanation of the formula for estimating earnings form the 20-page appendix. (Bp)

The drop-out and the Wisconsin apprenticeship program : a descriptive and econometric analysis by Thomas A Barocci( Book )

2 editions published in 1972 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The report is based on the results of a mail questionnaire sent to a sample of the total population of persons involved in the registered apprenticeship program in Wisconsin during the years 1965-1970. The returned questionnaires consisted of approximately the same number of dropouts and completers; these two groups were compared throughout the report. The report contains: (1) a review of the literature on apprenticeship with special emphasis on the system in Wisconsin and the dropout, (2) an extensive methodology section which shows the development of the model employed to predict success in apprenticeship programs, (3) a descriptive analysis of the personal, occupational, pre-apprenticeship, post-apprenticeship income and attitudes of the former apprentices, and (4) models predicting success and post-apprenticeship income.
