Der Name Frédéric Chopin ist untrennbar mit der Entwicklung des modernen Klavierspiels verbunden, er steht für das, was man landläufig unter romantischer Klaviermusik versteht. Im Zentrum dieser Einspielung stehen die Klaviersonaten Nr. 2 und 3. Die 2. Klaviersonate enthält den bekannten Marche funèbre. Dieser sich steigernde Trauermarsch entstand bereits 1837, vollendet wurde die Sonate 1839. Abgerundet wird das Programm durch einige von Chopins schönsten Miniaturen, der Berceuse op. 57, 2 Nocturnes op. 27 und der Barcarolle fis-Dur op. 60
