Rotating parachute shape theory by
Petr Mandl(
)
3 editions published in 1954 in English and Undetermined and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
An approximate theory of the shape and distribution of tension of the N.A.E. Repeating parachute is presented. This parachute is designed to open, close and reopen in flight by twisting its shroud lines due to the rotation of canopy and load. The theory describes the continuous change in the shape, the tension and the drag of the parachute while the shroud lines are twisting. The increment in drag due to rotation of the canopy is calculated. A most efficient design is obtained by varying independently the length, the number of shroud lines and the mass in the peripheral hem. Comparison of the efficiency in the design made between rotating and not rotating systems shows that the rotating parachute is superior
