Ein Klassiker und Inbegriff des Monumentalfilms. Lewis "Lew" Wallace (1827 - 1905) war ein US-amerikanischer Rechtsanwalt, General, Politiker und Schriftsteller und vor allem bekannt durch seinen Roman "Ben Hur." Eines Tages hatte Wallace ein Gespräch mit einem Stabsoffizier, der sich über Gott, Glauben und Christen lustig machte und darüber spottete. Wallace, der damals noch nicht gläubig war, kam ins Nachdenken und entschloss sich, alles, was mit der Bibel, Jesus Christus und dem Glauben zu tun hatte, ausgiebig zu erforschen. Später schrieb Wallace, dass seine Begegnung mit dem spöttelnden Colonel zwei Folgen hatte: Zum einen das Buch "Ben Hur", das 1880 veröffentlicht wurde, zum anderen seine Hinwendung zu Gott und Jesus Christus.
