Llanchamacocha is the name of one of three places in the Ecuadorian jungle where the last of the Záparo Indians live; seven houses and a runway encircled by the meandering Río Conambo. Fifteen pure Záparo are said to live in Ecuador today, with some hundred more in Peru. In Llanchamacocha live 60 Indígenas, two-thirds of whom are children; the Záparos mixed with Quechua Indians, but continue to live the traditional Záparo way of life. Once one of the most powerful peoples in the Amazon, they are now threatened by extinction. The film presents the life of the family of the last shaman of the Ecuadorian Záparos, Manari (Cayman) Ushigua, who died in 1997. His wisdom is largely responsible for the Záparos being able to preserve their culture. He protected them from encroachments by Catholic missionaries and Protestant sects

1 edition published in 2004 in Spanish and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Fayu Ujmu, an evil jungle spirit, appears to the Chachilla in the form of a human being with an enormous beak, which he uses to hack into his victims' necks in order to suck out their brains. In our story, Fayu Ujmu attacks the thirteen-year-old Indian boy Mico while he is helping build canoes in the jungle. In a ritual, the shaman tames the evil spirit, and charges the father with finding and capturing him. Tied down with a fishing net, wrapped up in large leaves, and hanging from a pole like a dead animal, Fayu Ujmu is dragged into the village, where the entire community and the pot in which he is to be boiled, await him. But as the beast is carefully unwrapped, it is not the dangerous jungle spirit, but a friendly White man who appears. He hands out candy and balloons, and brings everyone to dance with the help of a portable radio. The villagers crowd around him and excitedly grab for his presents. But Mico remains unconscious. The grandmother rushes to the shaman. What will he do?
