1 edition published in 1998 in English and held by 29 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This evaluation forms part of the standard cycle of evaluations conducted by the Department of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DEETYA) to verify that Government funds are achieving the objectives set for programmes by the Commonwealth Government. This evaluation has as its focus the Commonwealth School Languages Programme, which funds three major elements and provides some funding of two specialist bodies, the Asia Education Foundation (AEF) and Language Australia Limited. The three Programme elements, initiated at different stages in the development of the Commonwealth' s language policy to meet different policy needs, are Community Languages (CLE), Priority Languages (PLE) and the 1994 National Asian Languages and Studies in Australian Schools (NALSAS) Strategy. Those aspects of the work of the two specialist bodies that are funded by the Commonwealth under this Programme are also considered. As required by the tender brief, the Programme is evaluated as a whole. [Author abstract, ed]
