Gala du Jeune Ballet de France( Visual )

1 edition published in 1997 and held by 56 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Founded in 1983 by Robert Berthier, the Jeune Ballet de France used to have a very special place in the ballet tradition in France. Hiring some of the youngest and most promising dancers after the conservatories, it was a perfect way to fly towards a bright carreer. The JBF repertoire is particularly eclectic, ranging from the greatest classical ballets to more contemporanean works. The many tours of the company helped the choreographic art to be broadcast. In this programme, filmed at the Opéra Théâtre de Massy in 1997, we can admire famous excerpts from La Fille mal gardée, du Corsaire, de Diane et Actéon ... and a creation by Ivan Favier, Febrile. The dancers displayed here have now earned international fame: this is a unique opportunity to watch them at the beginning of their carreers. You will most notably see the Cuban dancer Joan Boada (who then entered the San Francisco Ballet), Yukari Kami (hired in 1997 at the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève), Boyd Laud (today a principal dancer at the Opéra national du Rhin), Amilcar Moret (Ballet de Hambourg), Guennadi Nedviguine (San Francisco Ballet), among others

Basic principles of classical ballet by A. I︠A︡ Vaganova( )

5 editions published between 1953 and 2012 in English and held by 24 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Although the stars of Russian ballet Anna Pavlova and Tamara Karsavina possessed a national manner of dancing, there was no truly Russian school of dancing until the 1930s. The development of this school was largely due to Mme. Vaganova (1879-1951), not only a great dancer but also the teacher of Galina Ulanova and many others and an unsurpassed theoretician. The principles of Vaganova's system are presented in this well-known book. Mme. Vaganova's aim of creating a personal approach to the Russian dance was based on the critical assimilation of the experience of her contemporaries. Her ability to choose the best of what had been accomplished in the various ballet traditions (French, Italian, and Russian) and combine these into a unified teaching practice in itself amounted to a new school of dance. She firmly believed that the teaching process should be a planned exercise, ever changing with innovations in the dance. She sought from her pupils emotional expressiveness, strictness of form, a resolute, energetic manner of performance, and the understanding of the underlying coordination of movements. Her book discusses all basic principles of ballet, grouping movements by fundamental types. Chapters cover battements, rotary movements of the legs, the arms, poses of the classical dance, connecting and auxiliary movements, jumps, beats, point work, and turns as well as material for a sample lesson. Diagrams show clearly the exact foot, leg, arm, and body positions for the proper execution of many steps and movements. The result is a fundamental theory of dance that offers dancers, teachers, and ballet lovers information often difficult to locate in other books. 118 illustrations

Documentary filmed in 1991, covering a few months in the life of Canadian ballerina Evelyn Hart, then aged 35. She is initially seen in a guest engagement with the Bavarian State Ballet (Bayerisches Staatsballett) of Munich, where she prepares for and dances the premiere of Uwe Scholz's Klavierkonzert in Es-Dur to music by Mozart, partnered by Robert Machherndl. Artistic director Konstanze Vernon describes her special qualities as a dancer. In the studios of her home company, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Hart rehearses Aurora's Act I variation from The sleeping beauty, and works with coach André Lewis and partner Rex Harrington. She then travels to Paris to rehearse and dance Rudi van Dantzig's Romeo and Juliet with Kader Belarbi and the Paris Opéra Ballet. Back in Winnipeg, she performs Agrippina Vaganova's La Esmeralda with Manuel Legris, a guest artist from the Paris Opéra Ballet.
