Jim Henson uses the art of puppetry to create visual effects that until this time were possible to attain only with animation. The puppets in ''Labyrinth, '' inventively created from the drawings of the conceptual designer Brian Froud, are a long way from Jim Henson's original Muppets, which used the traditional puppet box. The story of the film is a variation on a classic theme from children's literature. Following a young girl as she begins to change into a woman. She wishes her brother were not her responsibility and magically this occurs. The film is her journey to get him back - through the labyrinth of mazes, puzzles, magic and topsy-turvy twists of logic that must lead her to the center, where the goblin king is holding her brother

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence by
Nagisa Ōshima(

29 editions published between 1983 and 2021 in 3 languages and held by 564 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In a Japanese prison camp on Java in 1942, two British officers, John Lawrence and Jack Celliers, encounter camp commander Yonoi and his sergeant Hara. Things had been going pretty well, until charismatic, rebellious Celliers arrived. Yonoi is a devotee of the samurai ideal; neither he nor Hara can understand the stoic way in which the British prisoners accept their situation of defeat. Lawrence speaks Japanese, and ceaselessly tries to mediate between the prisoners and their overseers, translating both the words and the values of the two races. Celliers' attitude, however, is more comprehensible to Yonoi. He and Celliers arrive at a sort of détente, based on an admiration for the other, but this eventually turns into a contest of wills as the camp's carefully nurtured equilibrium is destroyed

Bowie on Bowie : interviews and encounters with David Bowie by
David Bowie(
Book
)
10 editions published between 2015 and 2017 in English and Japanese and held by 518 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Bowie on Bowie presents some of the best interviews David Bowie has granted in his near five-decade career. Each featured interview traces a new step in his unique journey, successively freezing him in time in all of his various incarnations, from a young novelty hit-maker and Ziggy Stardust to plastic soul player, 1980s sell-out, and the artistically reborn and beloved elder statesman of challenging popular music. In all of these iterations he is remarkably articulate and also preternaturally polite as almost every interviewer remarks upon his charm. The features in this book come from outlets both prestigious--Melody Maker, MOJO, New Musical Express, Q, Rolling Stone--and less well-known--the Drummer, Guitar, Ikon, Mr. Showbiz--but no matter the renown of the magazine, newspaper, or website, Bowie lets us approach the nerve center of his notoriously creative output"--
