Analysis and planning for improved distribution of nursing personnel and services : final report by Jo Eleanor Elliott( Book )

3 editions published between 1978 and 1979 in English and held by 233 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The goal of the Analysis and Planning Project was to strengthen the nursing community's ability to analyze and plan for improved distribution of nursing personnel and services. The objectives aimed at (1) developing analytical models and a data base for planning purposes; (2) identifying new approaches to improve the distribution and delivery of care; and (3) increasing the knowledge of and participation by nurses in health planning. A project advisory committee was formed to assist throughout the project. Several task forces were named to work with staff on developing the State Model, to work with staff and the subcontractor on the National Model, and to work with staff in addressing concerns related to data. A Taxonomy Committee on Nursing Practice was formed to develop a system of nomenclature, terminology, and definitions that might eventually be adopted by the entire profession. The Project Executive Committee provided coordination and planning for meeting the objectives of the various activities. Finally, a National Panel of Expert Consultants was convened to project nursing requirements on a national and state-by-state basis five years into the future. The objectives set forth for the project were met by the end of the contract period. (Bm)

The doctorally prepared nurse : report of two conferences on the demand for and education of nurses with doctoral degrees by Thomas P., Ed Phillips( Book )

2 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 174 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The proceedings of two conferences held by the Division of Nursing that have focused on doctoral preparation of nurses are presented in this publication. The first, the ''conference on Issues in Doctoral Education for Nurses," held in Bethesda, Maryland, on February 22, 1974, called together project directors and deans of schools of nursing that had ongoing Nurse-Scientist Programs at a time when future support for these programs was under question and careful planning for advanced education was crucial. The second, "Conference on Doctoral Manpower in Nursing," was held in Silver Spring, Maryland, on June 19-21, 1974. It addressed the issue of the requirements for doctorally prepared nurses needed in the nation, and it called on the experience and knowledge of a group of nurses familiar with academic, service, and other related settings where highly knowledgeable nurses are needed. Costs of hospital-sponsored orientation & inservice education for registered nurses by Suzanne H Kase( Book )

3 editions published between 1977 and 1978 in English and held by 156 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A nationwide survey sought to analyze hospital orientation and inservice education programs to determine their nature and costs with focus on differences in orientation costs for new nurses with three different types of preparation (diploma, associate degree (ad), and baccalaureate) and for cost differences in hospitals of varying sizes. Information was secured through a questionnaire to a representative national sample of short term, nonfederal general hospitals. Retrospective data were supplied by a stratified random sample of 394 hospitals (a total of 998 nonfederal acute care hospitals received questionnaires) in order to make projections to the designated population of 5,865 hospitals. The total national cost of in hospital education is estimated to be $226 million (60% for orientation and 40% for inservice education). Average total costs per sample hospital were figured as well as costs per new nurse for orientation and inservice education. Only direct salary components of the costs were computed, both for training staff and for recipients of the training. In the smaller hospitals the combined cost for inhospital education averaged $11,034 per year and $1.02 per patient day; in the largest these costs were $210,412 and $.95 respectively. Ad graduates generally averaged more hours of clinical unit orientation than either diploma or baccalaureate graduates. Average salary costs for training staff for both orientation and inservice ranged from $7,176 in the smaller hospitals to $80,062 in the largest. (Las)
