Game theory : a very short introduction by
K. G Binmore(
Book
)
46 editions published between 1991 and 2017 in 11 languages and held by 923 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
From the Publisher: Games are everywhere: Drivers maneuvering in heavy traffic are playing a driving game. Bargain hunters bidding on eBay are playing an auctioning game. The supermarket's price for corn flakes is decided by playing an economic game. This Very Short Introduction offers a succinct tour of the fascinating world of game theory, a groundbreaking field that analyzes how to play games in a rational way. Ken Binmore, a renowned game theorist, explains the theory in a way that is both entertaining and nonmathematical yet also deeply insightful, revealing how game theory can shed light on everything from social gatherings, to ethical decisionmaking, to successful cardplaying strategies, to calculating the sex ratio among bees. With minibiographies of many fascinating, and occasionally eccentric, founders of the subjectincluding John Nash, subject of the movie A Beautiful Mindthis book offers a concise overview of a cuttingedge field that has seen spectacular successes in evolutionary biology and economics, and is beginning to revolutionize other disciplines from psychology to political science

Game theory and the social contract by
K. G Binmore(
Book
)
67 editions published between 1988 and 2002 in English and Undetermined and held by 814 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"In Game Theory and the Social Contract, Ken Binmore argues that game theory provides a systematic tool for investigating ethical matters. His reinterpretation of classical social contract ideas within a gametheoretic framework generates new insights into the fundamental questions of social philosophy. He clears the way for this ambitious endeavor by first focusing on foundational issues paying particular attention to the failings of recent attempts to import game theoretic ideas into social and political philosophy. Binmore shows how ideas drawn from the classic expositions of Harsanyi and Rawls produce a synthesis that is consistent with the modern theory of noncooperative games. In the process, he notes logical weaknesses in other analyses of social cooperation and coordination, such as those offered by Rousseau, Kant, Gauthier, and Nozick. He persuasively argues that much of the current literature elaborates a faulty analysis of an irrelevant game." Publisher's description

Mathematical analysis : a straightforward approach by
K. G Binmore(
Book
)
44 editions published between 1977 and 2001 in 3 languages and held by 765 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
For the second edition of this very successful text, Professor Binmore has written two chapters on analysis in vector spaces. The discussion extends to the notion of the derivative of a vector function as a matrix and the use of second derivatives in classifying stationary points. Some necessary concepts from linear algebra are included where appropriate. The first edition contained numerous worked examples and an ample collection of exercises for all of which solutions were provided at the end of the book. The second edition retains this feature but in addition offers a set of problems for which no solutions are given. Teachers may find this a helpful innovation

Natural justice by
K. G Binmore(
Book
)
31 editions published between 2005 and 2015 in English and Japanese and held by 592 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In pursuing this point, the book proposes a naturalistic reinterpretation of John Rawls' original position that reconciles his egalitarian theory of justice with John Harsanyi's utilitarian theory by identifying the environment appropriate to each."Jacket

Rational decisions by
K. G Binmore(
Book
)
29 editions published between 2008 and 2011 in English and Undetermined and held by 489 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The book is a wideranging exploration of standard theories of choice and belief under risk and uncertainty. Ken Binmore discusses the various philosophical attitudes related to the nature of probability and offers resolutions to paradoxes believed to hinder further progress. In arguing that the Bayesian approach to knowledge is inadequate in a large world, Binmore proposes an extension to Bayesian decision theory allowing the idea of a mixed strategy in game theory to be expanded to a larger set of what Binmore refers to as "muddled" strategies."Jacket

Playing for real : a text on game theory by
K. G Binmore(
Book
)
44 editions published between 2005 and 2015 in English and held by 453 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Game theory makes sense of a wide variety of human interactions, as Ken Binmore demonstrates in Playing for Real with a range of examples and applications. This new book is a replacement for Binmore's previous game theory textbook, Fun and Games. It is a lighthearted introduction to game theory suitable for advanced undergraduate students or beginning graduate students. It aims to answer three questions: What is game theory? How is game theory applied? Why is game theory right? It is the only book that tackles all three questions seriously without getting heavily mathematical."Jacket

Evolution and rationality : decisions, cooperation and strategic behaviour by
Samir Okasha(
Book
)
11 editions published between 2012 and 2014 in English and held by 155 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This volume explores from multiple perspectives the subtle and interesting relationship between the theory of rational choice and Darwinian evolution. In rational choice theory, agents are assumed to make choices that maximize their utility; in evolution, natural selection 'chooses' between phenotypes according to the criterion of fitness maximization. So there is a parallel between utility in rational choice theory and fitness in Darwinian theory. This conceptual link between fitness and utility is mirrored by the interesting parallels between formal models of evolution and rational choice. The essays in this volume, by leading philosophers, economists, biologists and psychologists, explore the connection between evolution and rational choice in a number of different contexts, including choice under uncertainty, strategic decision making and prosocial behaviour. They will be of interest to students and researchers in philosophy of science, evolutionary biology, economics and psychology"

Jeux et théorie des jeux by
K. G Binmore(
Book
)
5 editions published between 1999 and 2010 in French and held by 130 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The ability to understand and predict behavior in strategic situations, in which an individual's success in making choices depends on the choices of others, has been the domain of game theory since the 1950s. Developing the theories at the heart of game theory has resulted in 8 Nobel Prizes and insights that researchers in many fields continue to develop. In Volume 4, top scholars synthesize and analyze mainstream scholarship on games and economic behavior, providing an updated account of developments in game theory since the 2002 publication of Volume 3, which only covers work through the mi
