Symphony no. 9 by Gustav Mahler( )

122 editions published between 1958 and 2013 in 7 languages and held by 3,077 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Dresden Staatskapelle has a very special tradition of performing Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. It performed the then still highly controversial work for the first time in August 1838 under the baton of Johann Gottlieb Reissiger. Since 1900, the piece has been performed yearly on Palm Sunday, having been popularized by Richard Wagner in 1843

Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit (8:09) -- 6. Denn wir haben hie keine bleibende Statt (11:34) -- 7. Selig sind die Toten (14:09)

Symphony no. 4 by Anton Bruckner( )

51 editions published between 1958 and 2008 in 4 languages and held by 1,663 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Der Freischutz by Carl Maria von Weber( )

88 editions published between 1937 and 2011 in 4 languages and held by 1,548 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Wagner said this early-Romantic gem was the most German of German operas. Its irresistible mix of colorful folklore, the spooky supernatural, a tender romance, and the passionate struggle between good and evil are all captured in Weber's tuneful and dramatic score. The cast in this rare U.S. performance is sensational: Sándor Kónya as our hero, the forester Max, who must win a shooting contest in order to marry his beloved Agathe (the ravishing Pilar Lorengar), despite the dark plotting of Caspar (Gerd Feldhoff)
Die Schöpfung = The creation by Joseph Haydn( Recording )

101 editions published between 1957 and 2016 in 8 languages and held by 1,515 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This marvellous recording, sung in German, comes as a surprise, since Bernard Haitink is not obviously associated with Haydn. In fact he didn't tackle The Creation until 2011, when he was 82. He approaches this great choral masterpiece with wit, unhurried grandeur, riveting orchestral detail and forward momentum - in short, with just the acuity he brings to anything he conducts. (....) Gabriel (soprano Camilla Tilling), Uriel (tenor Mark Padmore), and Raphael (bass Hanno Müller-Brachmann). Choir, orchestra and soloists are on sparkling form in this live recording - an invigorating reminder, if any were needed, of Haydn's genius" (The Guardian)
Earth by Patrick Stewart( Visual )

9 editions published between 2008 and 2010 in English and held by 1,463 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Depicts the diversity of wild habitats and creatures across the planet. The film begins in the Arctic in January of one year and moves south, finishing in Antarctica in the December of the same year. Along the way, it features the journeys made by three particular species, the polar bear, African bush elephant and humpback whale, to highlight the threats to their survival in the face of rapid environmental change

Pelléas et Mélisande by Claude Debussy( )

56 editions published between 1979 and 2017 in 7 languages and held by 1,181 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Star conductor Simon Rattle leads a superb cast in this mesmerizing performance of Debussy's rarely staged opera. Stéphane Degout and Magdalena Kožená are the tragic title couple--lovers caught in a web of passion as strong as it is forbidden. Gerald Finley delivers a remarkable portrayal of Golaud, Mélisande's husband and Pelléas's half-brother, and Felicity Palmer is their mother, Geneviève. Willard White brings dramatic and vocal intensity to the brief but crucial role of the blind old king Arkel
Parsifal : [ein Bühnenweihfestspiel] by Richard Wagner( Recording )

52 editions published between 1970 and 2016 in 5 languages and held by 1,176 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Wagner's mystical opera makes extraordinary demands on the conductor, but James Levine is renowned for the special affection and authority he brings to this transcendent work. The music shimmers and glows, evoking the legendary world of the Knights of the Holy Grail and the pure fool who brings healing power to the land. Peter Hofmann stars as the questing title hero, Jerome Hines sings the wise old man, Gurnemanz, and Mignon Dunn is the voluptuous Kundry, whose erotic temptations almost ensnare the young hero

Das Lied von der Erde by Gustav Mahler( )

55 editions published between 1975 and 2013 in 5 languages and held by 1,162 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Violin concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach( )

31 editions published between 1987 and 2012 in 4 languages and held by 1,151 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn concertos both have played a significant role in Ray Chen's career. His superb performance of the works led to his triumph at two major violin competitions: the 2008 Yehudi Menuhin Competition and first prize in the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels a year later. Chen brings a fresh interpretation to the cornerstones of violin repertoire and finds a kindred spirit in conductor Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra
