The continuation of vigorous research on gravity has led to developments in theory, measurement and global gravity models, with applications ranging from the search for the "fifth force" to a determination of sediment structure at the bottom of a deep ocean trench. The presentations in this volume provide a detailed review of these developments focused on four main themes: - Relativity, Fifth Force & Philosophy, - Gravity Measurement, - Space Techniques & Global Models, - Regional Gravity, Geodynamics and Tectonics

Permanent satellite tracking networks for geodesy and geodynamics : symposium no. 109, Vienna, Austria, August 11-24, 1991 by Gerald L Mader( Book )

4 editions published in 1993 in English and held by 121 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

As the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite array nears complete configuration, the versatility of the system is becoming apparent. Using GPSin combination with other techniques, such as PARE, DORIS, SLR, and VLBI allows for quick and highly accurate determinations of orbits, earth rotation, and crustal deformation. The papers in this volume examine the virtues of permanent satellite tracking networks and review the standards of GPS observation and analysis in geodesy and geodynamics. The papers presented in this volume are the result of an IAG symposium held during the XX General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics in Vienna, Austria, August 11-24, 1991

Applications of geodesy to engineering by K Linkwitz( Book )

4 editions published in 1993 in English and held by 85 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Accuracy requirements of fractions of a millimeter for the positioning of beam-guiding magnets in synchrotons, monitor- ing of speedy sub-seatunnelling with lengths exceeding 25 km, the construction of extremely long bridges of suspension or "cast-and push"--Type, but also geometrical industrial quality control and robot calibration in real time, and even the analysis of prestressed cable nets, are few examples of thechallenging new tasks demanding responses from the modern engineering-geodesist. In this volume, a general view of Engineering Geologyis presented, its state of the art and up-to-date information about recent scientific tasks, aims and methods. The contributions focus on Theoretical Aspects, Techniques of Measurements, Techniques of Data Processing and Computing, Reports About Selected Executed Projects, Special Tasks, e.g. Realtime Positioning and Navigation, Industrial Managements, Image Processing. But also the role of geo- desists in collaboration with civil and mechanical engineers, technical designers and architects is outlined. As a reference book, this volume will be useful for researchers, students and practitioners in Engineering Geodesy and neighbouring disciplines
Satellite altimetry for geodesy, geophysics, and oceanography : proceedings of the International Workshop on Satellite Altimetry, a joint workshop of IAG Section III Special Study Group SSG3.186 and IAG Section II, September 8-13, 2002, Wuhan, China by Cheinway Hwang( Book )

2 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 83 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume covers a broad range of altimetry applications, including marine gravity and geoid, sea level change, ocean tide modeling, ocean circulations, marine plate tectonics, mesoscale eddies and bathymetry predictions. Virtually all disciplines of earth sciences are touched upon through the technique of satellite altimetry. Readers will find useful data processing techniques and novel applications of satellite altimetry, which otherwise are scattered in journals and special books. TOC:From the contents: Keynote speeches. - Geodetic applications. - Geophysical and oceanographic applications. - Oceanographic applications
Geodetic deformation monitoring : from geophysical to engineering roles : IAG Symposium Jaén, Spain, March 17-19, 2005 by F Sansò( Book )

7 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 80 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Geodesy is the science dealing with the determination of the position of points in space, the shape and gravity field of the Earth and with their time variations. A consequence is that geodesists feel as a permanent subject of research, the detection, analysis and interpretation of spatial deformation as well as gravity field variation. This book collects 36 selected papers from the International Symposium on Geodetic Deformation Monitoring held in Jaen (Spain) from 17th to 19th March 2005. The main topics covered in the symposium were: mathematical and statistical models for crustal deformation analysis, deformation monitoring from GPS and InSAR data - analysis and geophysical interpretation, geodetic monitoring of movements in civil engineering, integration of spatial and terrestrial techniques in deformation studies, geodynamical applications of gravimetric observations and present-day geodetic instrumentation for deformation monitoring. This volume is a good overview of theoretical matters, models and results
