Goldman took a year's leave from his job as a religion reporter for The New York Times and enrolled in the Harvard Divinity School. What began as a project to deepen his knowledge of the world's sacred beliefs turned out to be a journey of spiritual illumination, one in which Goldman reexamined his own faith as an Orthodox Jew and opened his mind to the great religions of the world. In his year at Harvard, Goldman found to his surprise that his fellow students were not straitlaced, somber clerics, but a diverse, vibrant, and sometimes embattled group from every major religion, united by their deep spiritual commitment. Even more surprising was the spiritual climate of the Divinity School itself: Far from being an ivory tower or a bastion of old-time Christian piety, the school was a forum for passionate debate on the relationships between religion and politics, social mores and sexuality. --From publisher's description+-+515228098526210ocn015452082book18150.94Channing, William ElleryObservations on the proposition for increasing the means of theological education at the university in CambridgeHistorySources22511ocn015442470book18050.93Morse, JedidiahThe true reasons on which the election of a Hollis professor of divinity in Harvard College was opposed at the Board of Overseers, Feb. 14, 18052212ocn000751172book19540.70Williams, George HuntstonThe Harvard Divinity School: its place in Harvard University and in American culture1215ocn866853704file18130.90Codman, JohnDr. Codman's speech in the Board of Overseers of Harvard College, Feb. 3, 1831741ocn000972518book19580.66Williams, George HuntstonThe theological idea of the university373ocn001224058book18790.86Bellows, Henry WAn appeal in behalf of the further endowment of the Divinity School of Harvard University271ocn005705498book19170.86Harvard Divinity SchoolAddresses delivered at the observance of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Harvard Divinity School, Campbridge, Massachusetts, October 4, 1916192ocn011403734book19100.73Harvard Divinity SchoolGeneral catalogue of the Divinity School of Harvard University, 1910Directories122ocn005045435book18930.96Harvard Divinity SchoolThe Divinity school of Harvard University : its history, courses of study, aims, and advantagesHistoryCatalogs122ocn032953866book18560.88MassachusettsOpinion of the Supreme Judicial Court on the question of separating the Divinity School from Harvard CollegeTrials, litigation, etc122ocn681529182com19150.73Harvard Divinity SchoolGeneral catalogue of the Divinity School of Harvard University, 1915Directories121ocn005876625book18670.88Gannett, Ezra SAn Address delivered at the semi-centennial celebration of the Cambridge Divinity School, July 17, 1867112ocn039269910book18320.88Society for Promoting Theological EducationAddress of the directors of the Society for Promoting Theological Education, with the act of incorporation, by-laws, and a list of the members of the Society102ocn003762891book18440.92Harvard Divinity SchoolCatalogue of the alumni of the Divinity School of the university in CambridgeDirectories82ocn013388416book18600.96Society for Promoting Theological EducationHistorical sketch, officers, act of incorporation, bequest, by-laws, and list of membersHistory51ocn026514887serial0.95Harvard Divinity SchoolDean's reportPeriodicals54ocn010170055serial0.98Harvard Divinity SchoolHarvard Divinity School : issue containing the annual lectures and book reviews for the yearCatalogs41ocn003954405serial0.97Harvard Divinity SchoolGeneral information and announcement of courses42ocn010409536serial1.00Harvard Divinity SchoolCourses of instruction in the Harvard Divinity SchoolCatalogs+-+2106388106+-+2106388106Fri Mar 21 15:15:18 EDT 2014batch21632
