Narcissus = Narcisse by Norman McLaren( Visual )

19 editions published between 1983 and 2012 in 4 languages and held by 49 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In Greek mythology, Narcissus was a youth who rejected the love of the nymph Echo, as well as that of his hunting companion Ameinias, and instead became enchanted with his own reflection. Norman McLaren has based his last film on this legend and uses photographic techniques developed over a lifetime of experimentation to depict the young man's search for a physical beauty that does not exist outside himself. His totally introspective and selfish search for this supposed perfection leaves him a captive of his obsession. His longing for an always elusive image of himself is beautifully conveyed through a pas de deux in which his reflection seems to have no real physical substance and remains eternally out of reach. Together with the director's "Pas de deux" and "Ballet adagio", the film forms a remarkable trilogy
