Colección de documentos ineditos relativos al descubrimiento, conquista y organización de las antiguas posesiones españolas de ultramar. 2. ser by Real Academia de la Historia (Spain)( )

72 editions published between 1885 and 2011 in Spanish and held by 423 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The documents and indexes published in this collection (often abbreviated DIU), 25 volumes (1885-1952), were selected by a team of Spanish historians as representative of the glories of their country's history in the Americas. Drawn from various sections of the Archivo General de Indias (Sevilla) and the Real Academia de la Historia (Madrid), the publication transcribes a variety of documentary forms treating the establishment of the Spanish empire in the Caribbean and North and South America. The DIU is the successor set to DII and expands coverage to include later years and different subjects. The majority of its documents cover Cuba, the Philippines, Yucatan, and the decades-long attempt by Christopher Columbus and his descendants to recover what they considered to be Columbus' contractual rights with the Spanish crown. Since the printed volumes present documents in a notorious scramble, the digital edition greatly enhances DIU's value for research and instruction by allowing users to search its full text for occurrences of names, places, dates and other terms. Note: Two printed volumes offer very limited access to the collection. Schäfer, Ernst. Indice de la colección de documentos inéditos de Indias. 2v. Historia general y natural de las Indias by Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo y Valdés( Book )

14 editions published between 1851 and 1973 in Spanish and Undetermined and held by 183 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Gonzalo Fernandez de Oviedo is the 16th-century author of Historia general y natural de las Indias, a history of the peoples and places he encountered in his travels to Spanish America. In 1513, he accepted an appointment as inspector of the gold mines of Castilla de Oro on the Isthmus of Panama in Darien, the first viable Spanish settlement on the American mainland. His first year at the very edge of the known world converted Oviedo into a lifelong resident of America and, more importantly, marked the beginning of his campaign to appropriate the topic of the Indies and become its interpreter to Europe.
