Hypertension and coronary artery disease are chief causes of disability and death of men and women in active middle life. A new approach was needed to identify potential victims for prediction and prevention measures. In May 1946, a long-term controlled study was designed using Johns Hopkins medical students as subjects since they could be observed during their four years in medical school and could be relied upon to cooperate with the follow-up studies throughout their lives. Data was collected from fifteen classes, and twenty six reports have been published on various aspects of the study. These volumes are reprints of those reports
