Sir Thomas Malory's "Le Morte d'Arthur" is often considered the most important Arthurian text in history. Since its creation in the late 15th century, it has remained the prominent source for subsequent works about King Arthur and his knights. It laid the foundations for popular books such as Alfred, Lord Tennyson's "Idylls of the King" and T.H. White's "The Once and Future King." The first edition of Malory's work was printed by William Caxton in 1485. Caxton was responsible for altering the format of the work from eight separate tales to 21 books consisting of 507 chapters. Malory used early French and English Arthurian texts as sources for his story but also included his own original material. This rare edition from the early 20th century is titled "Le Morte Darthur" and divides Malory's work into four volumes. It features beautiful color illustrations from William Russell Flint. Although it is translated from Malory's old english, it includes a preface from William Caxton in the 15th-century format
