National security and core values in American history by William O Walker( )

14 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 926 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Drawing upon themes from the whole of the nation's past, William O. Walker III presents a new interpretation of the history of American exceptionalism, that is, of the basic values and liberties that have given the United States its very identity. He argues that a political economy of expansion and the quest for security led American leaders after 1890 to equate prosperity and safety with global engagement. In so doing, they developed and clung to what Walker calls the "security ethos."

Drugs in the Western Hemisphere : an odyssey of cultures in conflict by William O Walker( Book )

10 editions published between 1996 and 1998 in English and held by 411 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"A history of drugs is a study of cultures in competition, argues editor William Walker. Eminently adaptive, drug cultures have competed with proscriptive cultures to create a legitimate place for themselves, although one that the dominant society may recognize only tacitly. Drugs in the Western Hemisphere brings together forty-six essays that examine the complex negotiations and changing rhetoric revolving around issues of drugs and their control between the United States and its Latin American neighbors." "Professor Walker offers a chronological overview of the evolution of U.S.-Latin American drug policy from the turn of the century to the Clinton administration. He has collected essays from sociologists, historians, political scientists, and public policy experts, resulting in one of the most approachable readers yet assembled on this important and difficult topic."--Jacket
The rise and decline of the American century by William O Walker( )

7 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 280 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"More than waging cold war, efforts to forge an American Century defined the course of U.S. foreign policy from 1945 through 1968. Henry R. Luce's call in 1941 for an American Century gave shape to four decades of thinking about how the United States should engage the world"--

A detailed look at drug control policy as it has been shaped historically in the United States and other countries, most notable in China and East Asia.
