10 editions published between 2002 and 2009 in 4 languages and held by 404 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Gidon Kremer is not only one of the leading violinists in the world, but also thanks to his unquenchable curiosity and search for new impulses one of the most fascinating musical personalities of our time. His repertoire ranges from Bach to the present, whereby a number of contemporary composers have achieved international recognition through his commitment. Since 1997 Kremer has devoted a large part of his activities to the chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica, which he founded. The ensemble consists of young musicians from the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The average age is 25. The debut of the chamber orchestra in February 1997 corresponded with the 50th birthday of its founder Gidon Kremer. With this orchestral project, Kremer wants to pass on his artistic experiences to young musicians of his native country and to draw international attention to the outstanding musical situation of the Baltic nations. The Kremerata Baltica performs in all of the world's major musical venues

Silencio by Kremerata Baltica (Musical group)( Recording )

19 editions published in 2000 in 5 languages and held by 358 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Violinist Gidon Kremer and his ensemble, Kremerata Baltica, have tackled repertoire that ranges from Baroque to contemporary, but they seem to shine on the newer stuff. The group has an obvious ear for the music of the Baltic region, and Kremer's icy precision and passionate playing are tailor-made for the modern masters. On Silencio , Kremer delivers another stunning recording, this one featuring meditative music by a trio of composing mavericks: Arvo Pr̃t, Philip Glass, and Vladimir Martynov. Martynov may be the least-known of the three, but his work marks the disc's highlight composition, "Come In!" The moving piece for violin and orchestra--which features plenty of Romantic, lyrical playing (and the occasional sound of a door knocking)--is mystical but also tender and sweet. A string orchestra arrangement of Glass's String Quartet No. 2 ("Company") is almost as intense as the original played by Kronos. A short Pr̃t world premiere rounds out this disc: "Darf Ich" is a glorious piece for violin and orchestra reminiscent of Pr̃t's sublime "Summa". This is a gorgeous disc you'll get lost in; another gem from Kremer. --Jason Verlinde
