Alexander Rodchenko : spatial constructions = Raumkonstruktionen by Aleksandr Mikhaĭlovich Rodchenko( Book )

5 editions published in 2002 in English and German and held by 266 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

As spokesman of the Inkhuk group, which included Vladimir Tatlin as a leading member, Alexander Rodchenko was a decisive factor in the development of abstract art with his paintings, sculptures and architectural designs. This monograph focuses on Rodchenko's sculptures and presents a large number of works created by the Russian Constructivist. These can be loosely divided into three groups, beginning with the abstract sculptures dating from the year 1918, in which the artist renders the geometric surfaces of his pictures "spatially," assembling two-dimensional material, cardboard or plywood. Subsequently, works that are intended to be freely suspended within a given space form a second series of constructions: These light, perforated interlacings, consisting of similar geometrical contours, were flexible, kinetic sculptures, also viewed as the first mobiles. A third group represents Rodchenko's constructions of standard type squared timber produced in around 1920, which were never shown during his lifetime. These sculptures, constructed of raw wooden modules and reminiscent of Art Brut, demonstrate the universal validity of the principles governing the organization of forms, upon which the constructivists based the composition of their paintings

Zaha Hadid and suprematism by Zaha Hadid( Book )

10 editions published between 2010 and 2012 in English and held by 210 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Zaha Hadid ([born] 1950 in Baghdad), recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, designed and curated a groundbreaking exhibition at Zurich's Galerie Gmurzynska, comparing works of the Russian avant-garde with those of Zaha Hadid Architects. A fierce explosion of Russian works tore through the contemporary works by the architect in a dynamic black and white design. Created specifically for the venue, the projection of a two-dimensional drawing onto a three dimensional space transformed the gallery into a spatial painting in which the threshold of the picture plane expanded and could be entered. Zaha Hadid translated the warped and weightless space of Russian avant-garde painting and sculpture by Kazimir Malevich, El Lissitzky, and Alexander Rodchenko into her very own architectural language."--Publisher's website

"The Monumental Woods is a career-spanning retrospective catalogue of wood sculptures from American artist Robert Indiana (born 1928). This publication showcases five decades of work from Indiana's beginnings in the mid-century New York artist community of Coenties Slip, which included Indiana's close friends Ellsworth Kelly and Agnes Martin, to his chosen remote island home off the coast of Maine, where he has spent the past four decades. The pieces presented in this book, many reproduced for the first time, offer a retrospective survey of Indiana's sculptural oeuvre. With its handsome copper-stamped cover, The Monumental Woods includes exhibition shots, archival photographs and detail shots of many sculptures, in addition to a suite of color photos of the artist's home in Maine. The book concludes with three interviews of Indiana, set decades apart, in which the artist discusses the inspiration and evolution of his sculptures"--Amazon.com, viewed April 14, 2014

Fernando Botero by Fernando Botero( Book )

2 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 58 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This publication is comprised of more than 20 new pieces by Colombian painter, draftsman and sculptor Fernando Botero (born 1932), probably the best-known Latin American artist working today. The book, handsomely bound in linen with a tip-on reproduction of the painting 'The Street,' revisits the most iconic subjects of the artist's six-decade career, including examples of Botero's bullfighters, circus performers, imbibers, musicians, reclining couples and society women. In addition to his new works, the book also includes archival photographs of the artist as a child, at exhibitions and in his studio, as well as an interview conducted by the book's editors. In the interview, Botero discusses his august career and turning 80: 'from the point of view of my energy to work, I feel like I'm 30 ... What makes me work like this is the curiosity of what my next painting will be, what I will find.'"--Amazon.com, viewed July 7, 2014
