Considering Rem Koolhaas and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture : what is OMA by Rem Koolhaas( Book )

3 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 255 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"What is OMA provides a clear insight into the role and significance of Rem Koolhaas and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture. Authors of international repute from beyond the province of architecture examine OMA's work in the light of social and economic developments. The many facets of Koolhaas come under review: his take on architectural theory and the conceptual apparatus he employs, his vision of urbanism and the contemporary city, the designs put into practice by OMA and the research projects of the AMO think tank, which exist outside the immediate boundaries of architecture. This book paints an intelligent picture of the sheer range of OMA's architecture and of Koolhaas's seminal role in the architectural world."--Jacket
Mantegna & Bellini by Caroline Campbell( Book )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 222 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Andrea Mantegna (c. 1431-1506) and Giovanni Bellini (active c. 1459; died 1516) each produced groundbreaking paintings, marked by pictorial and technical innovations, that are among the masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance. Exploring the fruitful dynamic between Mantegna's inventive compositional approach and interest in classical antiquity and Bellini's passion for landscape painting, this fascinating volume examines how these two artists, who were also brothers-in-law, influenced and responded to each other's work. Full of new insights and captivating juxtapositions-including comparisons of each of the artist's depictions of the Agony in the Garden and the Presentation to the Temple-this study reveals that neither Mantegna's nor Bellini's achievements can be fully understood in isolation and that their continuous creative exchanges shaped the work of both
Views on Europe : Europe and German painting in the nineteenth century( Book )

5 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 218 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In a superb selection of over a hundred and fifty masterpieces, ranging from Neoclassicism and Romanticism to Realism, academic experts from three great institutions impressively show how the thread of Europe was woven into German art. They outline the wide variety of themes painters picked up from the European literature and political or intellectual debate of the time, the aspects and events they recorded as observers and chroniclers, and how the painters criss-crossed Europe in every direction - from the Nordic countries to Spain, and from Greece to Russia - absorbing artistic influences and making their own contribution abroad at the same time. German nineteenth-century art was European in the best sense. Over three hundred and eighty coloured illustrations in this volume illustrate the masterpieces of this multi-faceted period."--Jacket

The Demotic and Hieratic Papyri in the Suzuki Collection of Tokai University by Richard Jasnow( )

3 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 108 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

La quatrième de couvertrure indique : "This volume publishes, for the first time, approximately fifty Late Period Egyptian texts from the Suzuki collection held at Tokai University, Japan. The project is a result of a five-year collaboration between Tokai University, Yale University, Johns Hopkins University, The University of Michigan, and the Staatliche Museum zu Berlin. Professor Suzuki formed his collection in the early 1960s, when he was based in Cairo. The bulk of the collection, now housed in the Department of Asian Civilization, School of Letters at Tokai University as part of the Ancient Egyptian and Near Eastern Collection (AENET), consists of early demotic texts. There is also one Third Intermediate Period hieratic text concerned with temple land, and a few small Greek fragments from the Byzantine period. The texts published here present an interesting range of document types and examples of demotic handwriting, and a few surprises. Among the more interesting are a fine word list and a new mythological narrative"

Reflect : building in the Digital Media City, Seoul, Korea by Frank Barkow( Book )

3 editions published in 2007 in German and held by 88 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Frank Barkow and Regine Leibinger developed an unusual strategy for an office building in Seoul. Since the designs for the neighboring plots were unknown, the Berlin-based architects gave their building the ability to kaleidoscopically reflect its subsequent surroundings in a folded facade. This book documents the process of designing and constructing the building, which was finished in 2007, and monitors the emergence of a versatile face in the midst of facelessness."--BOOK JACKET
