Hudson Taylor's spiritual secret by Howard Taylor( Book )

Ames Hudson Taylor (1832-1905) was a Christian missionary to China and founder of the China Inland Mission (renamed Overseas Missionary Fellowship). He served there for 51 years, bringing over 800 missionaries to the country and personally baptizing an estimated 50,000 converts. He was famous for his commitment to cultural sensitivity, wearing Chinese dress even though this was rare among missionaries of that time. China Inland Mission accepted working class volunteers, women, multinational recruits, and members of all Protestant denominations. Hudson Taylor has been referred to as one of the most significant figures in the history of China in the 19th century, and the China Inland Mission was responsible for the widest Christian evangelistic campaign since the first century when Paul the Apostle brought Christian teaching to Europe. At Taylor's death in 1905, there were 205 stations with 849 missionaries and 125,000 Chinese Christians in the China Inland Mission. This is the classic biography of James Hudson Taylor by his son Howard and daughter-in-law Geraldine, who also served as missionaries to China. It is the inspiring story of Taylor's uncovering of the spiritual secret that paved the way for the China Inland Mission to become a reality. - Publisher

The China Inland Mission is a missionary organisation formed in Britain in 1865 by Hudson Taylor (1832?1905), to reach the Chinese with the message of Christ. It is interdenominational. Expelled from China in the early 1950s, it expanded operations across East Asia and in 1964 changed its name to Overseas Missionary Fellowship and more recently to OMF International. It now operates in twelve countries in Asia. The China Inland Mission's early years inland were hazardous, with riots, some internal dissension, and opposition from established Christian missionaries, who especially objected to the use of Chinese dress rather than European costumes. It took a strong part in famine relief and the campaign to abolish the British opium trade to China. By 1880 it was systematically organized. In every province the first station was established in the capital city, later opening stations in designated major cities in the province. Missionaries mostly came from Britain, but before being sent to the field they first attended special training colleges in China to learn the language and customs. Each missionary is part of an elaborate system of promotion and supervision. Taylor was the director until 1902. In 1903 the organization operated 509 stations in 19 provinces, with 763 missionaries (about half and half men and women), and 541 native workers. Some 9000 Chinese had become communicants
Borden of Yale '09 : "the life that counts" by Howard Taylor( Book )

12 editions published between 1926 and 2017 in English and held by 325 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

It is probably true, as was stated in the Princeton Seminary Bulletin, that no young man of his age had ever given more to the service of God and humanity; for Borden not only gave his wealth, but himself, in a way so joyous and natural that it was manifestly a privilege rather than a sacrifice. - Introduction

J. Hudson Taylor; a biography by Howard Taylor( Book )

7 editions published between 1965 and 1981 in English and held by 218 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

More than any other modern man, Hudson Taylor is the pattern by which the missionary is measured. Few who read this account of how Hudson Taylor learned to trust God first for a half crown and eventually for one thousand new missionaries can remain content with the current state of their own faith. "Hudson Taylor is not remembered today as the strategist who almost singlehandedly brought about a revolutionary change in the missionary situation in China one hundred years ago, but rather as a man of God. What abide are the fragrance and influence of his life." So wrote Arthur Glasser, former home director for the USA and Canada of the Overseas Missionary Fellowship. - Back cover

Born into a wealthy American family, William Borden attended Princeton Seminary and graduated from Yale. Despite an upper-class upbringing, his travels around the world had challenged him to the needs of the heathen world for Jesus Christ, and he purposed to make his choices count toward that goal. As Borden trained for a life of service to the Kansu people of China, his heart and labor went out in very practical ways to the widows, orphans and cripples in the back streets of Chicago. A quiet yet powerful man, he diligently sought to win other young college men for Christ and His service. His arrival in Egypt in 1913 was tragically marked by his contracting cerebral meningitis. His untimely death at the age of 25 was covered by nearly every newspaper in the United States as a testimony for Christ. Though "a waste" in the world's terms, both his life and his death have been a testimony and a challenge even beyond his own generation to "keep eternity's values in view."--Back cover
