Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni( Visual )

6 editions published in 2016 in Italian and English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

As comparably short operas Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci are often billed together, but seldom is the lead tenor making his double role debut as Turiddu and Canio on the same evening. At the 2015 Salzburg Easter Festival Jonas Kaufmann did just that - to rapturous praise. Universally hailed as a coup for Kaufmann, the plaudits were also showered on Philipp Stölzl for his innovative compartmentalized staging which included live video projections while referencing the era of black-and-white movies

The opera's story is typical of the period and the genre. A king is pitted against a prince, rival princesses against each other and just about everyone against the sea god, Neptune. With his series of distinguished and highly acclaimed Mozart operatic recordings, Rene Jacobs has shown he is the ideal conductor to revive this dazzling composition. The set includes a bonus DVD that details the making of this remarkable recording

Stabat Mater by Joseph Haydn( Recording )

1 edition published in 2001 in Undetermined and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Joseph Haydn's Stabat Mater, written in 1767, was the first church work the composer wrote after entering the service of Prince Esterházy in Eisenstadt. Unlike almost all his other sacred works, it soon circulated in numerous copies and established Haydn's reputation as the leading vocal composer of his day. This recording under the direction of Frieder Bernius - joined by a distinguished line-up of soloists, the Kammerchor Stuttgart and the Hofkapelle Stuttgart - follows the new critical edition of the work by Carus. The Kammerchor Stuttgart ranks as one of the best ensembles of its kind. In its 50 years of existence, Frieder Bernius has formed the choir to an exceptional phenomenon that has been acclaimed by both audiences and the press. The choir's repertoire ranges from the 17th to the 21st century, and the ensemble is regularly invited to all the important European festivals and performs in the most prestigious concert halls. The ensemble is led by Frieder Bernius

"The year 2014 marks the 150th birthday of the Munich-born composer Richard Strauss, and this CD highlights two key genres in his oeuvre: the "Alpine Symphony", composed in 1915, his last and greatest tone poem, and the four symphonic interludes from the opera "Intermezzo", first performed in Dresden in 1924. The Austrian conductor Franz Welser-Möst, currently Musical Director of the Vienna State Opera and Principal Conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra, is also a popular guest conductor of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. The music of Strauss lies on the threshold of the modern age, and Welser-Möst interprets it with a musical dramatic style enhanced by the classical-romantic tradition. This CD from the BR-KLASSIK label celebrates not only the 150th anniversary of Strauss's birth but also the 25th anniversary of Franz Welser-Moest's regular appearances as a guest conductor with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks" (prestoclassical.co.uk)
