127 editions published between 1955 and 2016 in 6 languages and held by 2,408 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn concertos both have played a significant role in Ray Chen's career. His superb performance of the works led to his triumph at two major violin competitions: the 2008 Yehudi Menuhin Competition and first prize in the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels a year later. Chen brings a fresh interpretation to the cornerstones of violin repertoire and finds a kindred spirit in conductor Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra

Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss( Recording )

92 editions published between 1956 and 2010 in 3 languages and held by 1,704 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Karl Bohm's only studio version of the work was recorded in 1958. When Deutsche Grammophon originally planned to record the work, there were already two rival versions on the market: the Decca recording under Erich Kleiber and EMI's version under Herbert von Karajan. Karajan's recording was made in December 1956 and should have included Irmgard Seefried as Octavian and Rita Streich as Sophie, but in both cases cast changes became necessary: Seefried was replaced by the young Christa Ludwig, and pregnancy forced Rita Streich to withdraw. As a result, Deutsche Grammophon was able to use both these singers for its own recording exactly two years later. It boasts a wonderful cast, with the full-throated Marianne Schech as the Marschallin, Irmgard Seefried bringing a range of colour to the 'trouser' role of Octavian, Rita Streich light and exquisite as Sophie, and a rounded, lyrical portrait of Faninal from Fischer-Dieskau. The recording also reunited Bohm with his 'old' orchestra, the Dresden Staatskapelle, an orchestra often referred to as the Zauberharfe or Magic Harp for the fluent and airborne quality of its sound

Ford's wife Alice (Phyllis Curtin) is being wooed by Falstaff (Ezio Flagello) who is also interested in Meg Page (Mildred Miller). Fortunately Dame Quickly (Fedora Barbieri) is a match for Falstaff and teaches him a lesson

Tristan und Isolde by Richard Wagner( Recording )

76 editions published between 1953 and 2013 in 6 languages and held by 1,230 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Wagner's revolutionary score changed the world of music with its radical portrayal of an all-consuming passion that can only be fulfilled in death. The legendary Birgit Nilsson sings Isolde, one of her greatest roles, in her second Met season. Karl Liebl is Tristan, the man she loves--and the best friend of the man she is forced to marry. Jerome Hines is the sorrowful King Marke and Irene Dalis sings Isolde's stalwart companion, Brangäne
Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti( )

71 editions published between 1953 and 2014 in 5 languages and held by 1,216 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is Maria Callas's only broadcast from the stage of the Met. Hearing "La Divina" in an actual performance is a unique thrill, and Lucia is a huge part of the palpable Callas mystique. Donizetti's bloody tale of the Scottish lass torn from her true love and forced into an arranged marriage, only to go mad and murder her bridegroom on their wedding night, was the perfect vehicle for Callas's wizardry. Her haunting voice simply becomes Lucia's--every facet of emotion so pronounced that we cannot escape her spell
