Music critic Tim Page interviews American composer, pianist and teacher Charles Wuorinen. Wuorinen speaks about contemporary music, and about the increased interest in all kinds of it. He talks about electronic music, but he says that he does not believe that it will replace traditional musical instruments. He also comments on whether he sees a connection to the music we listen to now and early music. He speaks also about the connection between composers and performers, and says that composers provide very general instructions to performers, and expect a wide variety of interpretations from them. The composer discusses his Percussion symphony, and excerpts from this symphony are played during his interview. At the end of the interview he gives advice to young composers

Inside Pierrot lunaire : performing the Sprechstimme in Schoenberg's masterpiece by Phyllis Bryn-Julson( Book )

5 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 244 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Inside Pierrot lunaire: Performing the Sprechstimme in Schoenberg's Masterpiece is a handbook on the performance and interpretation of the recitation in Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot lunaire, op. 21. As a guide for the listener and an aid to the interpreter of the twenty-one melodramas, this book provides an original English translation of each poem, annotated with references to other poems in the cycle, including some of the texts Schoenberg omitted. The volume also offers an analysis of the Sprechstimme in each melodrama, in the context of the surrounding texture and directed by the principles of analysis Schoenberg established in his essays and lectures."--Jacket
