Peking duck soup, [or,] Chinois, encore un effort pour etre revolutionnaires la grande histore d'un grand Etat ( Visual )
1 edition published in 1977 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
Using official photographs, newsreels and other archival material, Peking Duck Soup presents an irreverent alternative view of the rise and fall of the Maoist dynasty ('a social-Fascist dictatorship of the Feudal type') based on Jean Pasqualini's dictum in Prisoner of Mao that 'in China it is the past that is unpredictable'. It was made by French China specialists specifically to counter the sycophantic endorsements on film of the Cultural Revolution by Joris Ivens, Felix Green, Shirley Maclaine and others. Mao by Mao, a companion film, is virtually an autobiography of Mao insofar as the commentary is made up of his own words. It implicitly asks the question 'Was Mao really a Maoist?' in tracing Mao's apparent transformation from libertarian to authoritarian.

Keith Sanborn presents his translation of situationist René Viénet's film, in which Viénet furthers his exploration of Sadean women in head-on collision with all legal and moral restraints. The "sequel" to Viénet's Can Dialectics break bricks?, this film transforms a trashy Japanese porno film (A pair of panties for summer) into a crypto-Marxist sendup of imperial France.
