En 1985 paraît à Londres un article de Margaret Little, psychanalyste connue pour ses travaux sur les états-limites, faisant le récit de ses trois analyses dont la dernière avec Winnicott. Celui-ci n'a guère laissé de traces sur sa pratique avec les adultes, ceux-ci étant le plus souvent eux-mêmes des analystes. C'est pourquoi M. Little évoque les années passées sur le divan de celui qui fut son analyste, son maître à penser et à pratiquer. Son témoignage (traduit et reproduit dans ce livre) ets aussi provoquant que passionnant, la question des limites y est omniprésente : celles du patient, de l'analyste et de l'analyse. L'ensemble de la théorie, de la pratique et des méthodes de l'analyse est "bousculé" par ce témoignage hors du commun

La psychanalyse de l'enfant est historiquement créé à partir de la psychanalyse de l'adulte. Le travail analytique avec l'enfant a donc comme statut privilégié mais contraignant d'être la confirmation de la clinique de l'adulte. Or l'enfant réel, celui qui vient en consultation ne correspond pas toujours à l'enfant reconstruit dans les cures d'adultes, loin s'en faut. La naissance de cette spécialisation dérivée est venu enrichir et interroger, par fois remettre en question l'édifice freudien sur des questions métapsychologiques, en particulier celle de la régression mais c'est aussi la technique ana- lytique qui doit s'adapter a cette nouvelle donne. A travers le cadre c'est la situation contre-transférentielle de l'analyste face au transfert de l'enfant qui s'est trouve renouvelé car la position de neutralite bienveillante préconisée par Freud n'est pas tenable avec les enfants. Pour certains dont Anna Freud, cela remet en question le statut même de la psychanalyse de l'enfant, alors que pour d'autres dont Mélanie Klein, c'est la technique qui doit s'adapter. L'importance accordée au contre-transfert et a la régression est nourrie selon nous par ce travail avec le petit d'homme. Il existe une autre clinique qui va obliger l'analyste a s'utiliser comme force active du changement, celle des états-limites. Dans les années cinquante apparaissent des patients qui ne correspondent plus ni aux critères de ni névrose, ni a ceux de la psychose et qui surtout mettent en échec le setting traditionnel de l'analyse. Nous avons choisi d'illustrer cette nouvelle problématique à travers l'œuvre de Margaret Little, patiente de Winnicott, qui s'est consacré à l'importance du contre-transfert et de la régression dans le travail analytique comme mode de connaissance de l'inconscient. La régression dépendrait de la capacité de l'analyste à accompagner le patient dans ce trajet. C'est la complexité de ce concept fondateur que nous avons choisi d'explorer à travers la relation thérapeutique
