Biography of Mary Lyon (1797-1849), a daughter of Aaron Lyon and Jemima Shepard, who was born at Buckland, Franklin County, Massachusetts. She was intensely interested in religion as a youth, and became an avid student. She became a teacher as well, eventually at the Ipswich Female Seminary in 1830, and by 1837 at the Mount Holyoke Female Seminary. Among other things, she taught of the need of missionary work, and many of her students became missionaries
