A performance edition of Motetti a otto voci--Libro II, 1595, by Giovanni Croce by Stanley Paul Engebretson( Book )

1 edition published in 1980 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Originally published in 1595 by Giacomo Vincenti of Venice, the print from which these editions were made consists of a series of eight vocal partbooks and one organ partbook, which utilizes a basso seguente format compiled from the lowest notes of the vocal bass parts. Although Croce was a conservative Venetian regarding compositional style, a few of these motets are representative of the transitional era between the Renaissance and the Baroque, placing a strong emphasis on the text as a determinant of the musical style. Croce's motets are a valuable addition to the limited polychoral repertoire, and as such, deserve more attention than they are frequently accorded today
