The ethics of banking conclusions from the financial crisis by Peter Koslowski ( )
16 editions published between 2011 and 2012 in English and held by 375 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This book analyzes the systemic and the ethical mistakes that have led to the financial crisis of 2008. It explores the middle ground between the argument that financial managers cannot be expected to take responsibility for a systemic crisis and the argument that moral failure is the one and only origin of the crisis. The book investigates the role of speculation in the formation of the crisis. It distinguishes between productive speculation for hedging and for securing market liquidity on the one hand, and unproductive and even detrimental hyper-speculation, on the other. The book argues that hyper-speculation goes far beyond the degree of speculation that is necessary for the liquidity of financial markets in a developed economy, and has thus increased the risks of the financial system and will continue to do so. This book offers an ethics of banking and an ethical economy of the financial markets to counterbalance the financial industry{u2019}s purely economic approach

Principles of ethical economy by Peter Koslowski ( Book )
19 editions published between 1988 and 2001 in German and English and held by 286 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
One principle of ethical economy is the classical principle of double effect that is used for a theory of managerial and general decision-making. Unintended side-effects (externalities) are a central problem of decisions of large impact. Management decision making must exploit the potential for positive side-effects and control the negative side-effects of managerial decisions. The theory of ethical economy analyses the principles of just price and fair pricing and the relevance of the theory of just price for the pricing behaviour of the modern firm."

The welfare state has been developed first and in its largest extent in North-Western Europe, in Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Sweden. It is also in these countries where the crisis and financial problems of the welfare state are felt first. The need for restructuring the welfare state is a challenge of a supra-national, European and international scale. The book analyses the different welfare states in Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Sweden with outlooks to Eastern Europe and Japan and examines the proposals for reforming and restructuring the welfare state in Europe. The book offers a unique combination of empirical and philosophical-ethical analysis of the welfare state

Authors from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia analyse the economic, philosophical and political problems of the transition process. They discuss the economic and legal questions of the privatization of socialized property, examine critically whether pure Liberalism has been and is able to cope with the transition problems, and investigate the role and impact of business ethics in the transition process. Business ethics and the electronic economy ( Book )
6 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 168 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The internet has set off a technological revolution that has produced thorough changes in all industries. The volume at hand gives an analysis of the internet revolution. Technological changes like the introduction of the electronic economy raise the question of how to manage its ethical problems and dilemmas. Contributions from applied ethics and business ethics analyse the ethical problems and the business ethics of the electronic economy in the fields of production, labour, consumption, and in handling trust and the abuse of trust in the electronic business relationships. The reader is provided with a comprehensive analysis of the electronic economy and its technological, social, and ethical problems
The theory of ethical economy in the historical school : Wilhelm Roscher, Lorenz von Stein, Gustav Schmoller, Wilhelm Dilthey, and contemporary theory by Peter Koslowski ( Book )
12 editions published between 1995 and 2013 in English and German and held by 167 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The Historical School of Economics develops a historical theory of the economy and of business ethics. It investigates the ethical and cultural determinants of economic behaviour and economic institutions and forms an ethical and cultural theory of economics and business and the origin what, in the present, is called "institutional economics". Being one of the first comprehensive studies in the English language of the German "Historical and Ethical School of Economics", the book presents the theory from Wilhelm Roscher to Gustav Schmoller, the foundations of historism and the humanities of Wilhelm Dilthey and their present relevance. It also makes visible which impact the Historical School has for the foundations of contemporary business ethics and the cultural theory of the economy
The social market economy : theory and ethics of the economic order by Peter Koslowski ( Book )
6 editions published in 1998 in English and German and held by 166 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The social market economy forms a fundamental theory of the market economy and an integrated economic and ethical theory of the economic order in which the political and societal conditions for the working of the market are included in the theory of the market economy. The social market economy is presented as a universal theory of the decisions to be made about the economic order in all cultures and is analysed in its basic theoretical foundations and in its application to the transition process from the planned to the market economy, particulary in the privatisation of socialised property in Russia and former East Germany. Leading German and Russian experts in the field as well as four classical texts present a systematic analysis of the social market economy from the point of view of economics, law, and ethics
Sociobiology and bioeconomics : the theory of evolution in biological and economic theory by Peter Koslowski ( Book )
8 editions published between 1999 and 2011 in English and held by 165 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The theory of evolution and Neo-Darwinian biological theory extend their analysis in sociobiology from the life sciences and the animal societies to human societies. Sociobiology as a unifying theory of the social interaction within and between species has led to an integration of economic analysis into biology. The economy of nature has become the subject of bioeconomics which in turn transferred biological analysis to the human economy. Evolution, competition, selection, and cooperation are phenomena common to the economy of nature and human economy. The inclusion of economic and cultural theory in evolution theory raises the question whether the Neo-Darwinian Synthesis with its exclusive concern with somatic heredity is able to incorporate developmental systems of the human economy and of cultural heredity. A new synthesis of the natural and the social sciences is in the making
