For the first time in English, here is a comprehensive visual introduction to the history of the Jewish people in the Middle Ages. The Atlas includes more than one hundred maps, with accompanying text, that give an in-depth review of Jewish history throughout the world from the 5th to the 17th centuries. The Atlas covers milestone events of Jewish history during this period: the dispersion of the Jews in the fourth and fifth centuries up to the Crusades; the Black Death; the expulsion from Spain; the persecutions of 1648 in eastern Europe and the Sabbatean movement. The maps and text illustrate the sequence of persecution, expulsion, migration, and destruction, on the one hand, and a spiritual, religious, and cultural flowering, on the other. For students, scholars, and the general reader, the Atlas of Medieval Jewish History is a welcome new reference that will be an indispensable guide to this era

Historical atlas of Christianity by Franklin H Littell( )

4 editions published between 2001 and 2003 in English and held by 423 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

How does one graphically portray "Lutheran" Sweden or "Catholic" Spain, where 98% of the population is claimed but only 3.6% and 15%, respectively, are actually practicing? How many Orthodox Christians are left in Russia and other states of the former USSR? How to reckon the number and life of Christians persecuted in China or Indonesia? Atlases are generally limited to sketching political hegemony, along ethnic and national lines. Indeed, the first 1500 years of Christianity can be largely conveyed by graphics that are primarily geographical. Yet as we approach the modern period, where the creedal preferences of rulers and governments are no longer determinative, and the bonds of the old ethnic religions have slackened, the geographical portrayal of religion becomes problematic. Franklin Littell's method in this Illustrated History of Christianity is best conveyed by the term "confrontation." He highlights those times and places of crisis and decision which the shape and direction of the Christian movement was determined. Particular attention is paid to the interaction of Christians and Jews and to the encounter of Christianity and Islam. -- Amazon
The sacred bridge : Carta's atlas of the Biblical world by Anson F Rainey( )

8 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 393 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Of all the writings held sacred by the world's religions, only the Bible presents a message linked to geography. This is not just the location of religious centers but the experience of a people in its land, a people that has insisted on its God-given right to self-identity throughout the ages and in defiance of all forces that sought to deny it. All Jews and Christians who profess to find the source of their faith in these Scriptures look to the experiences of that people depicted in the Bible as examples and role models for their search after the Divine will and for their moral conduct among men. The religious experiences of that ancient people took place in relation to a geographical setting, generally a small postage stamp on the face of the globe, a patch of terrain in the southern part of the eastern Mediterranean littoral. The Bible is replete with geographical information, not as a guidebook for travelers or a textbook on geography, but often almost incidental to the message. Yet without the geography, that message is often obscured or vitiated for the uninformed reader. The present atlas seeks to introduce the reader to the geographical elements that can help to make real the social, historical and spiritual experience of the People of the Book. - Publisher
