This collection contains primarily correspondence related to Peisch's Ph.D. thesis on the work of Chicago architects associated with the Prairie School movement. Much of the material is about Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin's work in the United States and Australia and includes letters from and about Marion Mahony Griffin, Francis Barry Byrne, William Gray Purcell, William L. Steele, and George Grant Elmslie. The collection also includes some photographs, clippings, lectures, and papers related to the later publication of Peisch's thesis in book form as "The Chicago School of Architecture: Early Followers of Sullivan and Wright" (New York : Random House, 1964). Lastly, the collection contains a small number of reference files, some gathered long after the completion of Peisch's thesis

The bulk of the architectural drawings date from the period, circa 1883-1910, when Sullivan was a partner with Dankmar Adler in the architectural firm Adler and Sullivan. Projects represented include remodeling of McVickar's Theater, Chicago, 1883-1884 and 1890-1891; Auditorium Building, Chicago, 1888-1890; Transportation Building, Columbian Exposition, Chicago, 1891-1892; Chicago Stock Exchange building, 1894; St. Nicholas Hotel, St. Louis, 1894; Guaranty Building, Buffalo, 1895; remodeling of the Taylor Building, Chicago, 1894; National Farmers Bank, Owatonna, Minn., 1907; miscellaneous buildings; fresco designs; ornamental studies and designs; cover designs for magazines; miscellaneous designs; and figure studies. Drawings, 1873-1876, done by Sullivan while at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris; manuscripts of Sullivan's KINDERGARTEN CHATS, and DEMOCRACY: A MAN-SEARCH; drawings attributed to other architects, including Sullivan's assistant, George G. Elmslie; and miscellaneous drawings, are also included. Some drawings are annotated by Wright
