(RITS) Radiatively important trace species, leg 2 : January 29-February 18, 1990, Papeete, Tahiti to Pago Pago, Samoa.( Book )

1 edition published in 1990 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"Curise objectives: The major objective of this cruise was to assemble, for the first time, all of the relevant analytical systems, on one ship, to meausre ozone and the carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, halogen and metalloid gases believed to be important to the radiation physics of the atmosphere. A second objective was to deomstrate that the central equatorial Pacific is an ideal location to study those gases. Previous but unrelated studies in the region indicated that carbon and nitrogen gases, as well as ozone, were at minimum oceanic concentrations while sulfur, halogen and mercury gases were present at very high concentrations for the remote ocean. This indicated that the relevant chemical processes determining the atmospheric composition were proceeding at high rates and thus amenable to interpretation within the time constraints of an open ocean expedition."
