Water and the law in Hawaiì by Lawrence H Miike( Book )

4 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 170 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Water and the Law in Hawaii provides an intellectual and legal framework for understanding both the past and future of Hawaii's freshwater resources. It covers not only the laws governing the balancing act between preservation and use, but also the science of aquifers and streams and the customs and traditions practiced by ancient and present-day Hawaiians on the land and in the water. In placing Hawaii water law in the context of its historical development, the author condenses an enormous amount of information on traditional Hawaiian social structure and mythology. His analysis and explanation of the Hawaii Supreme Court decisions on water rights pose difficult questions and reveal the Court's at times defective reasoning by referring readers to original source material. He is the first author to fully explain how water use permits will play out in a variety of circumstances that may arise in the future, and he discusses the interrelationship between the State Water Code and the common law on water rights, which few people understand or are aware of."--BOOK JACKET
Developments in health manpower licensure : a follow-up to the 1971 Report on licensure and related health personnel credentialing by Chaim Cohen( Book )

6 editions published between 1973 and 1974 in English and held by 123 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The first part of the thoroughly documented report is described as an effort to clarify and reemphasize the position of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare with regard to the "two-year moratorium on the enactment of legislation that would establish new categories of health personnel." It also presents a preliminary assessment of the States' response to the recommended moratorium and recommends an extension of the moratorium until the end of 1975 to allow a continuation of efforts already initiated. Part 2 explores recent developments in the licensure of health manpower in the following areas: State studies of licensed health manpower; expanding the role of State licensing boards; licensure and the interstate mobility of health manpower; proficiency and equivalency testing; continuing education and its relationship to quality of care; developments in institutional licensure; and the foreign medical graduate. It is hoped the document will be useful to the States and professions in planning new and innovative directions in credentialing, will stimulate increased interprofessional communication, and will be the first step toward a comprehensive and unified health manpower policy. Ten pages of references, some annotated, conclude the report. (Author/NH)

Directors of the departments of Labor & Industrial Relations; Health; Business, Economic Development & Tourism; Land & Natural Resources; and the deputy to the Chairman of Hawaiian Home Lands, serving under Governor Cayetano, meet with Bob Rees. This is a good look at the enormity of Hawaiʻi's problems, and how they are being handled. There have been some real successes but there is an enormous amount of work to be done. The panel feels that you may not like the governor's decisions but that he treats you fairly
