Water soluble polymers : solution properties and applications by Zahid Amjad( )

8 editions published between 1998 and 2007 in English and held by 833 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of the symposium was to present and discuss recent developments in the solution properties of water soluble polymers and their applications in aqueous systems. Water soluble polymers find applications in a number of fields of which the following may be worth mentioning: cosmetics, detergent, oral care, industrial water treatment, g- thermal, wastewater treatment, water purification and reuse, pulp and paper production, sugar refining, and many more. Moreover, water soluble polymers play vital role in the oil industry, especially in enhanced oil recovery. Water soluble polymers are also used in ag- culture and controlled release pharmaceutical applications. Therefore, a fundamental knowledge of solution properties of these polymers is essential for most industrial scientists. An understanding of the basic phenomena involved in the application of these polymers, such as adsorption and interaction with different substrates (i. e., tooth enamel, hair, reverse - mosis membrane, heat exchanger surfaces, etc.) is of vital importance in developing high performance formulations for achieving optimum efficiency of the system."--Page vii
Chemistry as a second language : chemical education in a globalized society by Charity Flener Lovitt( )

3 editions published between 2010 and 2011 in English and held by 750 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Collaborations between scientists often transcend borders and cultural differences. The fundamental nature of science allows scientists to communicate using knowledge of their field but the institutions that support them are often hindered by financial and cultural barriers. As a result, science suffers. This book evolved from an August 2009 symposium at the 238th annual meeting of the American Chemical Society in Washington, DC. Its focus is on chemistry students and professors interested in developing a global approach to teaching chemistry, by participating in an international exchange program or incorporating culturally inclusive techniques into their classroom. The book has three broad themes; education research with a globalized perspective, experiences of teaching and learning in different countries, and organizations that support a global view of chemical education and chemistry
Environmental chemistry of lakes and reservoirs by American Chemical Society( Book )

4 editions published between 1993 and 1994 in English and held by 685 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Presents a timely exploration of research topics in environmental chemistry of lakes and reservoirs. Includes coverage of methodological advances in studies of lake geochemistry; cycling and distribution of major elements in aquatic systems; behavior of trace metals, with an emphasis on processes that control their solubility and transport, and behavior and fate of organic contaminants. Valuable reading for chemists, environmental engineers, biologists, and scientists involved in practical aspects of water pollution
Nanotechnology in catalysis by Bing Zhou( )

17 editions published between 2004 and 2007 in English and held by 681 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Based on the first and second symposia on Nanotechnology in Catalysis which were held in spring 2001 at the ACS 221st National Meeting in San Diego, CA, and in fall 2002 at the ACS 224th National Meeting in Boston, MA."--Preface

Materials chemistry : an emerging discipline( Book )

7 editions published between 1994 and 1995 in English and held by 597 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume provides an overview of materials chemistry - chemistry related to the preparation, processing and/or analysis of materials - an emerging subdiscipline of chemistry. It covers a range of materials types, as well as various approaches to their preparation and study
Functional condensation polymers by Charles E Carraher( )

5 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 590 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Although in nature the vast majority of polymers are condensation polymers, much publicity has been focused on functionalized vinyl polymers. Functional Condensation Polymers fulfills the need to explore these polymers which form an increasingly important and diverse foundation in the search for new materials in the twentyfirst century. Some of the advantages condensation polymers hold over vinyl polymers include offering different kinds of binding sites, their ability to be made biodegradable, and their different reactivities with various reagents under diverse reaction conditions. They also offer better tailoring of end-products, different tendencies (such as fiber formation), and different physical and chemical properties. Some of the main areas emphasized include dendrimers, control release of drugs, nanostructure materials, controlled biomedical recognition, and controllable electrolyte and electrical properties
