The call of the wild by Jack London( Book )

40 editions published between 1903 and 2015 in 4 languages and held by 690 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is Jack London?s most popular story. Published in 1903, "The Call of the Wild" is one of Jack London?s earlier works, but it is often considered to be his masterpiece. Set during the Klondike Gold Rush in the 19th century, the story follows the struggles and experiences of Buck, a domesticated dog who is stolen and sold into the rugged world of the Yukon. He learns how to survive in his new life as a sled dog traversing the untamed northern terrain. He encounters several challenges and discovers new concepts of the world such as cruelty, slyness and the survival of the fittest. At the same time, he experiences love, devotion and faithfulness. While often praised as a children?s novel, "The Call of the Wild" also features subject matter and themes attractive to an older audience. London, who spent time in the Klondike himself, writes with deliberate and thoughtful prose. He is careful to refrain from associating human characteristics with Buck and is extremely successful in depicting him as a believable and lifelike dog. What will happen to Buck in the Klondike? Will his animal instincts allow him to survive in the unforgiving terrain? Find out in Jack London?s iconic tale
