Alexander McIntosh Watts was born in 1813 in Sumter County, South Carolina. His parents were Julius Alexander Watts (1769-1862) and Agnes Benson (1776-1871). He married Martha Dandridge Spann 24 September 1837. They had fourteen children. He died in Palestine, Anderson County, Texas in 1892. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Georgia, South Carolina and Texas

His descendants moved on to Vermont and later many of them moved west into Minnesota about 1850.
