The Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, born in 1907, counts as one of the great architects of the 20th century. He became well known for his buildings in Brasilia, which combined a respect for the immediate surroundings with unmistakeable, almost baroque designs. In this publication, noted authors analyse important and topical aspects of Niemeyer's works and the text "My Architecture" by Niemeyer himself is featured. His work is set in the context of Brazil's modern architectural history, and his contribution to urban planning is reviewed. The role of the landscape in his oeuvre, and his influence on recent German architecture is examined. Striking colour photographs from the Niemeyer archives, spread over 48 pages illustrate the highlights of his architecture. This book has been published to accompany the exhibition "Oscar Niemeyer" which will start in February 2003 at the German Museum for Architecture (DAM) in Frankfurt

Exhibition Itinerary: Deutsches Architekturmuseum, Frankfurt am Main, July 27--November 13, 2011. This catalog accompanies the first exhibition dedicated to the entirety of May's work. It provides an overview of his most famous achievement, The New Frankfurt--a massive urban planning project which in the 1920s gave the city an unprecedented Modernist look and which provided thousands of ingeniously and economically designed apartments. In addition, the book presents in detail Ernst May's other architectural projects. It focuses on May's time in Silesia, the Soviet Union and Africa as well as his post-war return to Germany. It also sheds light on May's enormous impact on the fields of architecture and urban planning. The book's hundreds of illustrations include contemporary photographs, original drawings and plans, and images of models and completed projects. More than a dozen essays examine various aspects of May's work and life, and discuss the full range of his architectural oeuvre, presented in a comprehensive catalogue raisonée."--Publisher's website
