Gateway Project, Cleveland, Oh( Book )

1 edition published in 1995 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The Gateway project is a set of sports and entertainment venues including Jacob's Field, home of the Cleveland Indians, and Gund Arena, home of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The project is situated on 28 1/2 acre parcel on the southwest side of the Central Business District of Cleveland. The physical facilities were designed to be integrated into the cityscape of Cleveland. Economically, the project had the purposes of keeping the Cleveland Indians as an asset of Northeastern Ohio; bringing the NBA Cavaliers back downtown from their suburban home; and stimulating the redevelopment and revitalization of the quadrant of the Central Business District which had been a subject of disinvestment for the preceding four decades. The redevelopment objective depend upon the 4 1/2 -5 1/2 million annual visitors to the sports and entertainment complex being induced to spend time and money in the City. It was thus necessary to upgrade the surrounding infrastructure and street scapes as well as provide transportation options and security that encourage visitors to stay in the City
