Claes Oldenburg : the Sixties by Claes Oldenburg( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 501 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This comprehensive monograph explores the conceptual complexity and diversity of Claes Oldenburg's early work to reveal this influential artist's extraordinary inventiveness. Accompanying an exhibition of Oldenburg's seminal early work, this publication examines the breadth of his artistic career from the late 1950s to 1970. It features works including the landmark installations The Street and The Store and their accompanying performances; the highly influential spectacular sculptures of everyday objects as well as drawings and preparatory collages for public projects from the 1960s. The book traces the development of Oldenburg's practice as it follows his work up to the Mouse Museum. Also included in the publication is an extensive chronology, alongside notes as well as a variety of installation views that showcase the careful consideration given to modes of presentation. In addition to imagery of his Pop icons, this richly illustrated book contains an extensive selection of drawings, collages, and magazine and newspaper clippings as well as a wealth of previously unpublished notebook pages, preparatory studies, and photographs taken by the artist. This volume probes diverse aspects of his work to offer fresh perspectives on Oldenburg's artistic development and unprecedented insights into the conceptual process of his artistic explorations"--

Erwin Wurm : the artist who swallowed the world : Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst, Aachen (September 23, 2006 - November 26, 2006) ; MUMOK, Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien (October 20, 2006 - February 11, 2007) ; Deichtorhallen Hamburg (April 1, 2007 - August 31, 2007) ; Kunstmuseum St. Gallen ; Musee d'Art Contemporain de Lyon by Erwin Wurm( Book )

4 editions published between 2006 and 2008 in English and held by 223 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In his wonderfully ambiguous One Minute Sculptures, which are only humorous at first glance, the Vienna-based conceptualist, Erwin Wurm, takes a literal approach to sculpture while also taking the medium apart: anyone can be a piece of art for a minute by following his instructions. The non-human works by which he is best known, the overinflated and floppy Fat Car and Fat House, are likewise spirited, thoughtful critiques, in this case of consumer culture. Their strained poses, like those of his One Minute participants, raise immediate, simple questions concerning normality and the meaning or lack of it in both artistic conventions and human actions. Wurm's profoundly humane work is an eye-opener to social forces, and always playful. Those who know it look forward to each new piece. This informative monograph assembles many previously unpublished videos, sculptures, installations and performances

Dan Flavin, Lights by Dan Flavin( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and German and held by 196 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In the early 1960s, US artist Dan Flavin (1933-1996) began using commercially available fluorescent tubes in standard sizes and colours to create an unmistakable œuvre. Precision and careful calculation are bound together with a sensual aura. By choosing the tubes as the material for his works, Flavin signalised the increasing proximity of art with everyday life and the consumer world. The ways in which they are presented are derived from principles of minimalist sobriety."

Feminist avant-garde : art of the 1970s : the Sammlung Verbund Collection, Vienna by Gabriele Schor( Book )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 178 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"With greater energy than any artistic movement before, the feminist avant-garde of the 1970s deconstructed society's image of womanhood, dismantling centuries' worth of projections, stereotypes, and male hegemony. For the first time in the history of art, women, in an act of collective consciousness-raising, took the representation of their sex in visual art into their own hands and unfolded a wide spectrum of self-determined female identities: provocative and radical, poetic and ironic. Gabriele Schor, director of the Sammlung Verbund Collection, coined the term the Feminist Avant-Garde in order to highlight the pioneering achievements of these artists. This book presents over six hundred works in the Sammlung Verbund Collection created by forty-eight women artists. Established in Vienna in 2004 by VERBUND AG, Austria's leading electricity provider and one of the largest producers of hydropower in Europe, the collection has two main foci: "Perceptions of Spaces and Places" and the "Feminist Avant-Garde of the 1970s"

Gender check, a reader : art and theory in Eastern Europe by Museum Moderner Kunst (Austria)( Book )

3 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 120 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

After 1989, a serious body of knowledge has been produced in the former socialist states as well as in the West that theorizes the notion of gender and gender relations established in state-socialism and in the post-communist era. However, the existing volumes rarely (if ever) pay attention to the construction of femininity and masculinity in visual arts. The Gender Check reader presents, for the first time, an extensive collection of texts that explicitly analyze visual arts created before and after 1989 in the 'other' Europe in terms of gender and feminist theories
