11 editions published between 1992 and 2007 in English and held by 387 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the increasingly global economy, domestic tax policies have taken on a new importance for international economics. This unique volume compares the tax reform experiences of Canada and the United States, two countries with the world's largest bilateral flow of trade and investment. With the signing of the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement and the tax reforms of the 1980s, there has been some harmonization of tax systems. But geographic, cultural, and political characteristics shape distinct national social policies that may impede harmonization. As the U.S. and Canadian economies become even

Canada-United States free trade by Royal Commission on the Economic Union and Development Prospects for Canada( Book )

10 editions published between 1982 and 1985 in English and held by 318 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This volume contains the research papers which have been commissioned by the Research Advisory Group on Trade Policy (Economics) on the issues surrounding a possible Canada-U.S. free trade agreement. The papers are of three types: commissioned research studies, staff papers which summarize the proceedings of three research symposia, and a selection of the papers presented at these symposia. At each symposium, participants were invited to present short papers based on their existing work relevant to the issues being discussed. Many of these proved to be extremely helpful both to the Commission staff and to Commissioners in drawing together the thinking of the wider research community on issues surrounding Canada-U.S. free trade. Therefore, slightly longer and revised versions of some of these have been included here to help focus the debate which we expect will follow publication of the Commission's report and research output."--p. 1

UK tax policy and applied general equilibrium analysis by John Piggott( Book )

17 editions published between 1985 and 2009 in English and held by 266 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

At the time of this volume's publication in 1985, general equilibrium modelling had become a significant area of applied economic research. Its focus was to develop techniques to facilitate economy-wide quantitative assessment of allocative and distributional impacts on policy changes. UK Tax Policy and Applied General Equilibrium Analysis was the first book-length treatment of the development and application of an applied general equilibrium model of the Walrasian type, constructed to analyse UK taxation and subsidy policy. As a whole, UK Tax Policy and Applied General Equilibrium Analysis offers the reader two things. First, it gives a detailed account of the development of an applied general equilibrium model of the UK. Second, it provides results of model experiments which have been designed to inform the policy debate, not only in the UK but also in other countries. It should thus be of interest to both researchers and students undertaking research in the applied general equilibrium area and to policy makers concerned with tax reform

"This volume considers the extent to which the regional effects of economic policies offset or compound each other. In assessing the implications for contemporary Confederation, the authors discuss regional effects of tariff and trade policies, energy policies, equalization and intergovernmental transfers, interregional barriers to the flow of both goods and services, and the federal tax transfer system."--p. [274]

The global development of policy regimes to combat climate change by N. H Stern( Book )

6 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 61 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

La 4ème de couv. indique : "The year 2015 will be a landmark year for international climate change negotiations. Governments have agreed to adopt a universal legal agreement on climate change at the 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Paris in 2015. The agreement will come into force no later than 2020. This book focuses on the prospects for global agreement, how to encourage compliance with any such agreement and perspectives of key players in the negotiations - the United States, India, China, and the EU. It finds that there is strong commitment to the established UN institutions and processes within which the search for further agreed actions will occur. There are already a myriad of local and regional policies that are helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build mutual confidence. However, the chapters in the book also highlight potential areas of discord. For instance, varying interpretations of the "common but differentiated responsibilities" of developing countries, agreed as part of the UNFCCC, could be a major sticking point for negotiators. When combined with other issues, such as the choice of consumption or production as the basis for mitigation commitments, the appropriate time frame and base date for their measurement and whether level or intensity commitments are to be negotiated, the challenges that need to be overcome are considerable. The authors bring to bear insights from economics, public finance and game theory."
