3 editions published in 1990 in English and held by 20 libraries worldwide In 1915, songwriter/labor organizer Joe Hill was executed by the State of Utah for a murder he probably did not commit. Nearly 75 years later, a packet of his ashes was discovered in the U.S. National Archives and returned to the Chicago headquarters of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). This film examines the life and work of Joe Hill and places his legacy within a broader context of the history of the IWW (whose members are known as "Wobblies") and current labor arts. Features interviews with singer/storyteller Utah Phillips, Joe Hill biographer Gibbs Smith, labor historian Joyce Kornbluh and IWW artist Carlos Cortez. Joe Hill's songs are performed by Utah Phillips, Mark Ross, Ellen Klaver and Dakota Sid Clifford.
